Darwin Airlines & Fly Baboo: They Will Codeshare!

Sat Oct 22, 2005 3:30 am

Heard it on the news tonight in Switzerland: The two companies that fly GVA-LUG, Darwin Airlines (Saab 2000) and Fly Baboo (Dash8) will codeshare their flight.

The 7 daily flights will now become 4, and they will work together on that route. I think it's good news, instead of just fighting all the time! Way to go!

It's not about AIRBUS. it's not about BOEING. It's all about the beauty of FLYING.

Those are great news and I am really happy to read this! They were really fighting each other in this small market and it was obvious that there will be nothing than loosers if it goes on with the competition. Now they did what unfortunately is very seldom in aviation. They made their mind work and made a step towards each other. This is great! I am happy to see two airlines working over the *Röstigraben and the Alps!

My sincere congratulations to Darwin and FlyBaboo  champagne  champagne  champagne

Cheers

*The Röstigraben is the geographical barrier of the French and the German speaking Swiss, meanwhile the Alps separate the Italian speaking Swiss from the others.

Thanks for the info Pipo380 !

That is really good news as it improves both companies chances of survival in the long term. Now that LX is in the process of disposing its 50 seaters, we can certainly use strong Swiss airlines that have the ability to serve thin routes into niche markets.

What might be the next steps ? Fleet harmonisation ? A full blown merger ?

BTW: Haven't found anything on the Swiss German news. This is typical. For them Switzerland ceases to exist somewhere west of Bern.  Wink

I hope that it just stays with the codeshare (which is good news of course) and that they dont merge. Then there would be another swiss airline that would dissapear.

Why do you think so ? A merger followed by a fleet harmonisation should generate quite a few synergies.

Baboo fares are relatively high.

Interesting indeed!! I really hope for a good future at both companies, but my heart lies with Darwin. I started with Crossair and then was with SWISS and was based in LUG the whole time. I learned to love it over there and loved the SB-20.

I am now living and flying in a different universe here in the USA, but sometimes I am very nostalgic for flying in Ticino and GVA, even though I am a German-speaker. (American by birth, Swiss in my heart!!!  Big grin )

I really hope for good things for these companies as many of the people there are pilots and flight attendants and mechanics who really got the shaft from SWISS (and we all know who controls that now, don't we.....)

Exactly,
and I' am sure they will become even better airlines!
That market is for them now!

Yes, you' re right,
I do hope that many shafted crews from LX do find in Darwin and Baboo a better employer and I' am sure the "regional-mainline" mentality is history for them!

In the end we all like that a Swiss carrier is performing these routes,
even LX!
