On 21 October at 1741 EDT I saw a CO 737-500 over Summit NJ, 9.5 nm out on the approach course to EWR runway 11. http://www4.passur.com shows it as a flight from Boston that used the usual arrival route to the Sparta VOR, descending to 7000 ft out there. At the time the rest of EWR's arrivals were using runway 4R.
Question is, would CO have requested runway 11 or was it ATC's idea? Seems like a sensible thing to do if arrivals for 4R are lined up, but then you'd think we'd be seeing CO jets landing rwy 11 all the time, which we don't-- they're just occasional. Does the Port Authority have some agreement with the towns under the approach to limit landings on 11?
