Santa Barbara's 767 To Start Service Nov. 1st

Sun Oct 23, 2005 8:13 am

Hey guys,

Today I went to Santa Barbara's site and the first thing I saw was:
"Nueva Flota Santa Barbara Airlines, Boeing 767" (Santa Barbara's New Fleet Boeing 767)
http://www.santabarbaraairlines.com/

We all knew this was coming, but didn't know when.

The made it official that beginning Nov. 1st their CCS-MAD route will be served four times a week, and their CCS-TFN route will be serviced weekly with a Boeing 767. Also, beginning December, they will fly 6 days a week to MAD and one to TFN.

I believe these are very good news for us Venezuelans. This will be the first Venezuelan airline with "quite new" equipments since VIASA.

I'll try to go down to CCS to try to spot the aircraft and get some shots!
Hopefully, they'll have it already nicely-painted!

Saludos desde Caracas!

Congrats bud.. I like Santa Barbara but the issue with the DC-10s was scary, so this is definitely good news...

Interesting news. Where does Santa Barbara Airlines get their 767? Will it be a 762 or 763? I would assume the 763...?

Oww I see it now, it will be a 763, nice Big grin

Anyway, that doesn't answer my first question, where is this 763 coming from? Are there a lot of 767s available on the second hand market?

Isn't S3 using that 742 they were going to lease for a few weeks until the 763 was ready? Are they ETOPS certified already?.....that was quick!
Also, I have seen on flight tracker the IB is flying a A346 down to CCS now? Are the loads that high? Can anybody get a shot of that bird there?

I am sure it is a wet-lease from Euroatlantic or similar.

Not that many... but Santa Barbara managed to secure at least 2 763ER from Pegasus Aviation. Pegasus is the lessor of Santa Barbara's DC10s.

Not so much, right now the 767, particularly 763 used market is very tight, lots of "want" and not much "have."
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

You mean they get two ??? What for ?
According to what they say on their website they want to operate 7 weekly services to Spain. They used to have 2 DC10 for those flights, but they were not very reliable, so it was justified to have two.
I doubt that they can afford to pay the leasing for 2 763 having one on the ground !
What I hope is that they open some new routes, e.g. to Italy.

Yup, you are right...

Supposedly, S3 wants to fly to Portugal and Italy to compete against TAP and Alitalia. They'll use their first 767 to go to MAD and TFN and probably their second will do these new routes...

I really hope to see a nice livery on these first Venezuelan 767s!

I might be wrong. Is that I've heard some TV ads saying: Fly Santa Barbara to Spain. We are flying daily to Spain with our fleet of "new generation" Boeings 767-300 ER. They say fleet and Boeing in plural. You also have to consider that the plane has to go a weekly maintenance check, I think it's impossible to fly daily transatlantic with a single 763, unless you don't perform maintenance on it.
Another possibility is that the 763 is wet leased and they might use the 2nd one to increase capacity to MIA and send the 752 to fly MAR-MIA. Who knows...
Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in CCS this week.

I am so glad that Santa Barbara has finally decided to set its own record straight. They have a lot of potential and this 767 can only help. I am glad that Santa Barbara is demonstrating that "en Venezuela, si se puede!"

Santa Barbara just announced through their site their future service to Portugal
http://www.santabarbaraairlines.com/Noticias.asp

In this article they make official their daily services to MAD and weekly service to TFN. They just published their schedule:

    Starting Nov. 1st until Nov. 30th, 4 flights x week CCS-MAD-CCS
  • CCS-MAD: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
  • MAD-CCS: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

    From Dec. 1st until Jan. 30th 2006, 6 flights x week.
  • CCS-MAD-CCS: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

    All year long CCS-TFN-CCS: Thursdays

Well, so the waited-new already popped... Their new route will be Portugal... Most likely to be LIS or Porto. Pretty good for them!

Now they are proudly announcing on their site things like "our modern fleet of B757-200, B767-300ER and ATR-42"

I'm very happy for them!

Very nice. A little unfortunate that these changes were sort of forced, but somehow they had to happen. Now it would be even better if they started to add more medium-haul aircraft in order to solidify a stronger network.  crossfingers

Flights will start with a B767-300ER wet leased from Icelandair.
FI only have one, it is TF-FIB I saw it some time ago in BRU and I believe it is mainly used in their U.S. routes and charter routes.

Good luck S3!!!

Nice. I just made a little research for TF-FIB and found out that it was delivered Sep 1991 to SAS. So far not a really new bird. But better than the DC10.
I am sure the aircraft is in very nice condition since Icelandair is know to keep their aircraft very well. I hope they paint it in S3 colors.
So this is the first one with obviously a second one to come for the increase of service for X-mas and Portugal.

Definitely. This is something Santa Barbara needs. And if they start such routes with nice and "new" 737 and/or E-jets I am sure it will be a success. People like flying S3 and they would prefer them also e.g. to BOG.
And: They finally need to replace the old 727 on the Ecuador services.

Maybe Luis had too much Polar and it was a 767 he saw ?  drunk
But maybe they also get a 757 to operate some other routes ? UIO ?

I just checked the reservation system and it still shows the DC10 operating the S3 routes. This is a bit strange. I can understand that they did not show the 747 "operated by A4" but the 763 is a long term solution...or not ?

That's what it seems...
Following S3 CEO's declarations, these aircraft will replace for good the older DC-10s to upgrade their transatlantic routes. So, as far as I know, they will have two 763s and plans to add other 752s to enhance their connections and a probable 772...

Quoting SOUTHAMERICA (Reply 20):

Yes, that's totally true. S3 must add some new aircraft for their short haul flights in order to get some more revenue. The 727 must be burning their money... with some E-jets or some new 737s, as Chiguire said, they are going to be awesome. They have a huge opportunity, let's hope they don't waste it!

This is the 767 we were talking about. I'm starting to get excited! If Santa Barbara is going to use this aircraft, it won't be so expensive to paint. They'll only have to change the tail color and erase the name in the fuselage.

This is TF-FIB. I searched on the data-base and I found out they have another one: TF-FIA.

Some of us A.netters might go down to CCS to see if the a/c is there this weekend. We think it might get here at least two days before its first flight, Nov. 1st.

Im excited!!!

intresting to hear regarding the 767.

I think Santa Barbara should fill more easyer the 767 on the mad route than the bigger DC10. Sad is that they will loose cargo capazity. Sad

Right. BOG-CCS is, by far, the most active international market in the Andean region and it's a route that can fortunately support several carriers and multiple daily flights. I wouldn't mind S3 giving AV some real quality competition and a run for their money and their passengers.

Yes, you are right. After all, the only carrier that used to compete against AV on this routes was VH, but I wouldn't consider it a serious competitor. Now, if S3 gets in the market, hold up your pants AV! They have a huge potential in this market.

Let's wait to see this bird coming down to CCS!

It depends. VH probably offers a pretty standard product on its CCS-BOG route, in fact, it's possible to find overall service provided by VH on-pair with AV's. The problem is that VH is simply not convincing and instead of attracting passengers they are losing them to AV.

The past mid-year high-season in BOG started pretty bad for VH performance-wise, though it picked up towards July, when the CCS-BOG leg shined thanks to fine results, but the BOG-CCS segment kept operating with mediocre numbers, half-empty planes and rock-bottom fares. August was a bit more stable and both legs performed similarly and fine.

Quoting 797 (Reply 30):
Now, if S3 gets in the market, hold up your pants AV!

Well AV won't be sleeping in the laurels if it happens, for sure. AV is known to be a die-hard protector of key-markets and CCS is definitely one of them. CCS is the company's strongest Latin American station, and while on a per-flight basis CCS is just an average destination, overall revenue is the highest of all.

It would be interesting to see S3 debut in BOG, and sit and watch what AV would do to keep its leadership in the market.

I also can't wait to see S3's first 763 flying. Too bad I won't be seeing the 763 in CUR. Heck, S3 doesn't even fly to CUR. I would have to be VERY lucky to see their 763 in CUR (possibly for a weather-related diversion). In anyway, I wish Santa Barbara Airlines all the best. Hope we can see more newer aircraft being added to their fleet. If S3 is to replace its 727 will they most likely go for the 737-300/-400?

And here the additional information. Looks like the "new" Santa Barbara 763 is either:

I hope it's CP-2425 because CP- 2426 is quite old.
Tripulation is - of course - from Bolivia. Contract probably until March 06.
Meanwhile S3 crews are getting a training on the 767 in order to be able to start their own operations around March 06 with own metal.

The only open question would be: with the announced additional frequencies from 23rd Nov 05 on they need a second aircraft that will probably not be provided by LAB (as they only have two, and I guess they won't stop their longhaul operations).
Anyone has an idea ? Maybe this is the FI aircraft then ?

I'm going down there anyways this weekend! Can't wait!

RE: Santa Barbara's 767 To Start Service Nov. 1st

Well, looks like it's coming:
sine today in the GDS: 763 by S3.

the flight for tomorrow 1st Nov. shows:
1S31333 J4 C4 D4 A0 F4 Y0 B0 Q0 S0*MADCCS 1100 1500 763
M0 L0 V0 H0 O0 I0

so around zero availability.
And the return CCS-MAD is exactly the same. So I guess there will be no flight.
First availability is on 3rd Nov. MAD-CCS. And 4th CCS-MAD.
This are the dates I expect the first 763 rotation. Arriving CCS 3rd 3:00pm on the 3rd.

Good luck Santa Barbara !

"New" 767s???? There's no way S3 767s are brand-new..."new" for them but surely recycled, re-used but not "new". It's a positive trend but definitely their 763s will be less advanced than IB or Air Europa's jets. S3 could keep their passengers "entertained" for a while claiming "new" jets which in fact they are not. I guess that flies w/the average customer. Good luck, anyway.

Let's check for further news. Hope to find something!

Well, I am not sure. The strange thing is that I didn't expect a MAD-CCS today, but the website of the airport shows an arrival at 15:40 ! But there is no departure today, just tomorrow. So if this is the 763 it will remain in CCS for 24 hours - if.

Chiguire,

qiubo? There are a few flight trackers out there, but to me the best is Flightview: http://www.flightview.com/TravelTools/default.asp

Enjoy...
