Swiss MD11 Names.

Mon Oct 24, 2005 5:32 am

Hi1

I was just checking a SWISS timetable from 27 October 2002 till 29 March 2003 and I noticed in the end the SWISS MD11 fleet and the names the planes had. I tried to check out photos of the SWISS MD11's and I don't see at any place their names in the fuselage. Here are the names and the MD11's SWISS had at that time:

HB-IWA - Zinalrothorn
HB-IWB - Castor
HB-IWC - Finsteraarhorn
HB-IWD - Lenzspitze
HB-IWE - Nadelhorn
HB-IWI - Dent Blanche
HB-IWK - Parrotspitze
HB-IWL - Weisshorn
HB-IWM - Liskamm
HB-IWN - Dom
HB-IWO - Signalkuppe
HB-IWP - Zumsteinspitze
HB-IWQ - Dufourspitze

Now, were these names "virtual"?

Quoting CV990 (Thread starter):
Now, were these names "virtual"?

Considering that these names are those of Swiss mountains, they are not virtual  Smile
But to answer your question, the names were supposed to be painted in tiny small letters close to the front door.
I have verified it for some Airbuses but I do not know about the MD-11

I don't know if it was written on the MD-11s as well, but here's a pic of a Swiss ERJ. You might notice the name of the aircraft (and the height of the mountain in meters) written next to the door.

Most of those names have been transportet over to the A340s.

I remember Swissair used to have the names of all the cantons on their widebody jets

The Swissair MD-11s featured a logo with the names near the L/R 2 door.
