2 BA 777 At TPA Today, Why?

Mon Oct 24, 2005 8:54 am

As I passed thruough, I saw to BA 777 at TPA. G-VIIP at gate 90. Theey were working on the right side engine. And in gate 89, G-VIIA. So why 2? If one had cancelled, they woud not have had time to bring another in. Or has G-VIIP been sitting here since yesterday? Was the outbound back to LGW cancelled on Friday?

Now that would have been a sight at TPA. Although are you sure the other BA 777 parked at gate F89? I don't believe two widebodies will be able to fit together at F89 and F90. In addition, F89 is not an FIS gate. Perhaps it parked at F88. I take it the plane has been fixed and flown out expeditiously so it will not have to deal with Wilma Flintstone.

Hmmmm, could it be to accomodate extra pax for them to fly out of Florida, which will get beaten by yet another hurricane?

TPA is not in the evac zone.

But while IAH has other service to LGW via CO and BA non-stop to LHR as well, TPA has no such service, so since the first 777 was grounded, it would have stranded the TPA pax a full day, and yes, with the hurricane south of them, I doubt some of the TPA pax scheduled to leave would appreciate being forced to stay a day, since hotels would be harder to find and the tropical storm gusts would be a little scary.

Hello from Miami... although I do not know the reason why BA sent 2 772's to TPA today... Just because TPA area is not evacuated it does not mean they will not receive Hurricane or Tropical Storm Force Winds. These areas are both under Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch. Perhaps BA sent two planes to accomodate passengers for the Monday flight? which surely will be cancelled.
