Ilfc 787 Order To Be Announced At DXB Airshow

Tue Oct 25, 2005 7:18 am

According to this week's FI. A mix of 788 and 789 will be ordered, as well as 4 more rolling options. 1st delivery is scheduled for Jan. 2010.
There was speculation ILFC had grabbed some early 787 slots, but this appears to be false. I also wonder why they are announcing at the Dubai airshow. Maybe a deal with a ME carrier???

Could it be a Gulf Air order through ILFC?

No, but FI announced that the announcement would be at DXB airshow, that the order consisted of 788/789 and that there would be 4 rolling options. Quite important additional information IMO. And why announce at DXB airshow?

Don't they often do a big ta-daaa! at airshows? Razzle dazzle 'em?

Or, as you say, deal with a Middle East carrier.

Quite an interesting report. I too had thought they'd secured earlier delivery than 2010 but the report must have been erroneous. Interesting that FI report the 4 rolling options, I'd not seen any report's other than the 20 firm.

As for an announcement at Dubai I can only assume that it is at the request of the customer. Will be interesting to see whom they've been placed with. If this is the case it'll be the first time a Leasing Co will have announced who they've placed their order with for either the B787 or A350.

Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between an option, and a rolling option. Also, would the rolling options only be for 4 planes, or many more?

IIRC an option reserves the right, for a small deposit, to a defined delivery date in the future whereas a rolling option enables the reserved delivery slot to be transferred to another date without any penalty. In this case only 4 options are involved. That's the simple answer, perhaps Dale or someone else could provide a clearer answer as they know more than I sir.

Nope  no

FI the week before stated they'd only be interested in a B787-1000 but not the 787-900 or 800. Unless of course Emirates is withholding information nobody else is aware of yet...

Interesting. Lease aircraft will offer more flexibility for the 787 market. ILFC is also talking to Airbus on the A350 but wants them to make cabin / weight adjustments. GE and Boeing also have influential leasing companies.
