New Southwest Theme Plane?

Wed Oct 26, 2005 5:46 pm

I was just driving down the access road on BFI and I saw a WN aircraft on the delivery ramp on the Boeing side of the field and it appears to be a new special livery. Is this true? If so, what will this one be? I could not get a very clear look at the fuselage due to service structures and the jet blast barricades in the way, but the tail of the aircraft is in plain view, so I am sure it is a WN plane.

Dunno.

But it would be neat if they did their inaugural flight to DIA on "Colorado One".

Does BFI do any repainting for Southwest? The last special themed aircraft needing new paint is "Nevada One". I haven't seen it in a while so maybe it's in the paint shop? Maybe that was the aircraft you saw at BFI? I dunno...

In what way did it look different than a standard, or partially-painted standard livery?

N223WN was delivered yesterday, 10/26, BFI-PHX. If it was a special livery, it must have been a stealthy one because nobody said anything...

N224WN is scheduled for delivery in the next couple of days, so we'll watch for that one...

Sorry, yeah...more like I was trying to ask if Southwest sends aircraft to BFI for repainting. I know it is done at multiple sites.

It has the standard WN canyon blue tail scheme, but the fuselage is not in the canyon blue paint scheme. It is certianly not an unpainted fuselage, as there is color on it. Again, I could not get a very good look at it due to obstruction blocking my view, but I could see enough of it to know that it is not in the standard livery.

On a second note: Just one hour ago (0200 PST, 1000Z), the aircraft was parked in front of one of the 737 paint hangers, still obstructed from view by service structures and barricades, but it is the same aircraft. Some one with binoculars or a telephoto lens might be able to get a good view of it from the fence on Airport Way between Classic Helicopter and the NE Airpark.

WN at PVD will be 10 years old next year (10/27), so I'm hoping for a "Rhode Island One" with a big sailboat on the tail and some lobsters or something...

We're still waiting for a 'Louisiana One'. It'd be a fitting tribute considering MSY was WN's first service outside of Texas, along with recent events down here.

The florida cities share the same anniversary year as PVD (hard to believe) but a Florida theme (Hurricane One) may also be in the works!

Yeah, "Silver One" gets grayer after every make over. It recently got repainted and it's a white-ish gray color when under the bright sun. Now it really looks like "Primer One". See?

Sadly I don't see them painting a "Virginia One" to commemorate their years (5?) in Norfolk, at least not without a well-placed window. Although the VA flag might look good on a Hooters Air 737...

Personally I don't think this new paint job is as good as the last. In fact, as bad as "Silver One" looked before, the silver paint was still in darn good shape. It was the emblem on the front that looked terrible. I don't know, maybe it's due to the fact the cheat line has changed from red to white, but I just don't think it looks as sharp as before. I'm not talking about when it was actually bare metal as obviously that was the best look it ever had. But right now, it looks like a really light gray....and when seen from up close, it's just a sparkly gray.

Oh well, at least the rumors were not true about "Silver One" being painted blue.

"Peuter One" or "Granite One" sounds fancier than "Primer One"

to expand on "RI One", they could actually grab some of the State flag (a large anchor and gold stars) and incorporate the sailboat or a lighthouse and some marine life. Ah who am I kidding, most people think RI is part of NY...

The last one looked like an unfinished 'special' livery, it looked ok. But this new one looks as fugly as those eurowhite paintschemes with the plain fuselage and painted tail. That looks nasty.

The 'aviation gods' grabbed it by the tail and dipped it in concrete.

Silver one used to be bare metal, but it had to be taken out of service too long to keep it looking good, so it was painted instead.

If there is any new livery, it should be of a cow (kind of like Gateway computers) in honor of the DIA announcement. Herb said they would return to Denver "When cows fly"...

Silver is the gift you give on one's 25th anniversary. So, Southwest painted a 737 in "silver" colors to commemorate their 25th anniversary of creaming the majors.
