Well I am not bothered with the plasticity of the smile, or whether the samosa's could have been wamed one degree more, or indeed whether I should have been given that full bottle of coke !
Most of my travel has been on Indian Airlines, Jet and Sahara. I found the inflight service of Sahara over the past 8 years has been consistenly good and they do give an impression about caring!
Jet is robotic- when things go well they are good - when things go wrong - they can get bad! I was at BOM airport the day after someone stole the localiser, and the chaos in Jet operations, even 24 hours after the incident - was remarkable! And to make it worse they have some staff, both inflight and on the gorund who have got increasingly arrogant and snooty over the years!
Indian Airlines - Well my respect for them is only increasing with every flight. Yes you do come accross the occasional indifferent attitude, but these have incidents have drastically reduced. Many people I feel are not giving Indian Airlines a fair chance, because they automatically assume that being a govt airline and Jet being private, Indian Airlines is still the horror story which it was to a large extent in the early 1990s! As far as I am concerned, they are good - and as I mentioned I define what is good on a number of broad parameters. And a recent very major delay for a flight was handled so professionally, that I wished that the Jet folks would get much need training on custoemr service from Indian Airlines. Over all I think Indian Airlines is suffering from their past bad image and many people are not now even bothered to try them out - automatically opting for Jet/Sahara.
Incidentally a similar "fixed mindset" syndrome appears to be happening regarding King FIsher vs Deccan. Deccan was India's first LCC, and they got miles and mles of publicity from that and for a lot of people Low Fares means Deccan anytime! Now whenever I have checked fares on routes where KF
and Deccan operate,. in most cases KF
fares comes within a couple of hundred rupees of what Deccan is offering, if not less! And people still travel on those Deccan turboprops (in routes like COK BLR) where they can travel so much more comfortably at virtually the same price in a KF
