JAT To YYZ And JFK...

Sat Oct 29, 2005 10:21 am

I just came across this on another Aviation Forum :
Jat is planning to lease 2 B767's and start long-haul flights to JFK and YYZ .
It also talked about new Aircraft to be added to their fleet , like 8 A319's and 5 B738's .
Any thoughts , confirmation...

Can you PM me a link to this?
JAT could become a strong carrier, f ture.
but I'd go 319/320, now 319/738, whichi s just stupid.

Also, I think they should fly to ORD in additoin to the cities mentioned, even flying BEG-YYZ-ORD perhaps. ORD has a HUGE ethnic population. There are more Serbs in Chicago than in any city other than Belgrade.
What now?

Let's hope for the best  crossfingers  but, it is not the first time JAT announced their return to North American market. Few years ago, they were even selling tickets for the inaugural flight to Toronto.

There was a press conference when the new winter timetable was released and it made me realize how things simply don't change at JAT.

They announced new destination - Kuwait which is already in their network for some time and didn't even mention that they discontinued three other Middle Eastern destinations : Beirut, Damascus and Cairo (which was the biggest surprise to me).

I'm afraid nobody could confirm anything about those flights to YYZ and JFK or new planes simply because people in JAT made so many similar statements in the recent months and years that it is hard for anyone to believe them.

Unfortunately, it is the fact now that airline is a mess and it makes me feel like crying

Few years ago they were selling tickets for their "new" service to Johannesburg as well!

Uhhh, I'll try and control myself here.... they're morons! I'm sorry but JAT's management appear to be thinking of running a poultry farm - not an airline!

Sorry to say but there is a bigger chance of Continental Micronesia starting scheduled flight to Belgrade at the moment than JAT restarting North American services.

Serbia's traveling public needs a good airline like Qatar Airways or Singapore Airlines to come in and rattle some feathers; maaaaybeeeee then the management may actually catch a wake up and bring this airline to a better shape. Until then, its not JAT, its JAD.

Oh and BTW, dropping prices is not the only way you will make people fly with you. Sure it works, but how about improving service, painting the planes....

Though I must say that a return to Dubai for Euro 139 is bl**dy good! Big grin

You still can? When JAT is mentioned, I lose control  hissyfit

I doubt it.  no  They are so self-centred that nothing can make them realize in what position they currently are in the airline market. Even today, there are some good airlines serving Belgrade from whom they could learn, but they don't feel like doing it.

Absolutely Right.

Does anyone here find operating A319s and 737-800s Stupid? I'm just waiting for the day JAT goes out of business and Serbia gets a new carrier.

JAT to JFK? While it would be convenient and probably inexpensive, I am not sure I could spend 8 hours on a plane operated by JAT. They have the poorest service I have ever encountered. Their flight attendents are surly, their flight schedules fictional and if you ever need to get information from any employee at any time, forget about it. I just can't believe it would be a profitable route anyway.

WOW!!! I see that all the replies here are negative about JAT!!!
I saw once a JAT 733 in PRG and it was all painted in white, are all JAT plane just completely white?
I know that people from Serbia travel to the US via PRG with OK, since they have their schedule made so that people can connect in PRG to the flight to JFK.
How´s JAT´s service anyway?

JAT service is sometimes very good, at times horrible.
Yes, connecting from JAT to OK to JFK is very convenient. My father did that and loved it.
They have one plane in their new livery (YU-ANJ, a 737-300)
A bunch of white planes
and a few 737s in their old livery.

Also, they are now operating an all white 727.

From Their Canada site:
August 15, 2001 Sanctions lifted in Canada.
May 2002 JAT renewed technical license for operating in Canada
June 05, 2002 Jat Airways is denied Commercial license for operating in Canada.

Have they got a Commercial license for operating in Canada?

Maybe.. but with the way the nations are, I don't think Serbia would ever let a third country assume the role of it's national carrier.

I think the Serbian/Montenegro government should do with JAT what they did with the Port of Bar (the country only seaport), give it in consession and let some private company with experience run it.
I'm sure JAT could be of interest to some international airline groups.

Another option would be to convince airlines to use BEG as an stopover for their flights to the USA and Far East...
