SAS To LCY - Did They Do Practice Landings

Sun Oct 30, 2005 12:44 am

With all new operators at LCY...(current airlines), prior to operating, the airline has normally conducted training flight for crew to become accustomed to the demands of LCY and it's unique Taxi/Parking situation.

Did SAS do so with there Q400's?

I can't say I have seen them.

A LH/IQ Captain once wrote in the LCY Cities2Cities Magazine, that the Q400 simulator didn't really give the required training. It's ok on a computer, but the taxi procedures and parking requirments cannot be practised.

So did SAS train?

They don't have to practice at LCY. CVT had a special approach system installed that will allow pilots to practice 5.5 degree approaches a la LCY. IIRC FlyBE did their training there.

Presumably there's somewhere in Scandinavia with a 5.5 degree approach fitted.

Cheers,
Noel.
