Airports Where Foreign Carriers Are Dominant

Sun Oct 30, 2005 9:59 am

What are some Airports where a Foreign carrier has more flights than the Domestic/Flag Carriers at the country. One I can think of is AA at SDQ.
Can anybody think of one , any info/feedback would be appreciated  Smile

I think that maybe BTS, where Ryanair is stronger than any Slovakian airline. The same thing in Brno, Czech Rep.
That´s all I can think off.

I don't know if GRU is dominated by foreign carriers but there is a huge presence of non-Brasilian airlines.

I think you are right, I just read an article that GRU is more operated by foreign carriers than with TAM or Varig. The airport in Sao Paulo that is mostly opeated by Brazilian carriers in Congonhas.

Well, if we are counting FR as a foreign carrier within the EU, they are also a dominant foreign carrier at STN, PIK, HHN, GRO, BGY, CRL, BVA and others. None of those airports are in Ireland, and FR is an Irish carrier

How about Bermuda, also, where the only domestic flights are four weekly British Airways flights to Gatwick, and everything else is to North America?

Anchorage.....

I'm not sure what the combined total, per day, of international flag carrier cargo frequencies is, but I'm sure that they are pretty close to Alaska's average 50x daily (not including FedEx, UPS, NW Cargo, etc.).

I think the same could be said about many of the small airports at the smaller Greek islands. Some of these have lots of flights to Scandinavia and northern Europe on foreign carriers, but not so many flights on Greek carriers. The same could probably be said about many other leisure destinations all over the world.
Top 10 airplanes: B737, T154, B747, IL96, T134, IL62, A320, MD80, B757, DC10

What about some of the Mexican airports like CUN, PVT, and MZT? It seems to me that there are more flights from the US and Canadian airlines to these airports than Mexican ones.

At times it does look like that is the case in some airports in mexico, but only within a certain time frame.

Even at MEX at times it looks like that, with all the IB,RG,AF,LH, etc heavies in there and when most of the domestic carriers just left the airport and there's only a handful coming in. This was common in the afternoon IIRC.
