DL To Cut MSO Flights From Eight To Six A Day

Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:42 am

Do you think that NW or UA will pick up the slots in this market?

Delta Air Lines plans to reduce its flights to Missoula International Airport from eight to six 50-seat regional jets a day starting Dec. 1.

The schedule cuts by the bankrupt airline affect every commercial airport in Montana. Delta will reduce the total service by its regional carrier SkyWest Airlines in Montana from 50 to 36 flights a day. It is unclear how - or how many - employees will be affected.

Surprise Surprise same thing here in North Dakota. Northwest is reducing capacity in every market they serve (besides Minot MOT still 3 DC-9s a day). Other than that GFK FAR BIS DVL JMS are getting screwed a bit. But at the same time... if you think about it 8 flights a day to a place like Missoula... seems more to be after market share than profit... that 400 seats a day... to a city of 60,000 people... (with competiton from UA and AS). Thats a small market to compete in for 3 airlines. I guess if this helps them out, 6 flights a day is still a lot of frequency to a place as small as Missoula.

Actually, Among the Skywest CRJ200s, SLC-MSO will see one daily CRJ700 service by ASA so it is a small reduction in number of seats. Also, cities like BZN and BIL will also see some CRJ700 action coming that way this winter.

Article should say from 50 to 36 flights per week, not per day. Also, there will be one CR7 flight up to MSO beginning in December.

The 700 is already in BIL at least once a day...

What slots? There aren't any. Just because one airline reduces service does not mean another has to increase it. NW and UA are in no better shape than DL. They are also looking to cut capacity at smaller markets like MSO, not increase it.
