FL Additional Frequences From IND Feb 16th

Wed Nov 02, 2005 7:45 am

Looks like FL is adding additional service to MCO & TPA starting Feb 16th. Is this partly in response to TZ? Amazingly they are keeping ATL at 5x. Will additional frequencies and routes be coming?

posted this in another thread, but perhaps it should have gone here.

1. I wouldn't be surprised to see AirTran add another flight to Ft. Myers.

2. and what of the Las Vegas flight? US Airways? perhaps even Frontier. wonder if the demand for daily # of passengers in and out of a few western markets...Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, etc., might interest them for some point to point services in light of the problems at NWA. hrmmm...?

It really amazes me how little service there is to the west coast from IND. No SEA, SFO, SAN, PDX, etc. What is the range of the 717? Can it get from IND to SFO comfortably? Or would they need to use the 737?

i'm thinking it'd need to be the 737. as i recall, TWA was pushing it with the 717's going from St. Louis to Phoenix.

Are these new frequencys announced today or is this something that was already in the works? I haven't seen any press releases yet. Looks like a good idea though. Amazing how quickly IND has gone from not being on the FL route map a year or so ago, to being a fairly busy station.

Its possible that it may have been in the works. But they are putting in the 3rd MCO route before the 2nd one has a chance to start and be tested. Maybe they are selling that well. I know when I flew IND-MCO on FL this summer it was packed. My wife flew FL to TPA last month and it was packed too.

The west coast is amazingly under served from IND. It looks like WN is dropping nonstop service from IND to LAX after Feb 10. That leaves (unless I am missing someone) only 1 nonstop to LAX which is on NW. There is 3 nonstop flights to LAS which is 2 on WN and 1 on NW. Yet there are 6 nonstop flights to MCO.

So it breaks down like this...

MCO - 1000 passengers and 6 nonstop.
LAX - 793 passengers and 1 nonstop.
LAS - 1000 passengers and 3 nonstop.
SFO - 461 passengers and 0 nonstop.
SAN - 289 passengers and 0 nonstop.
SEA - 359 passengers and 0 nonstop.

I think this should give a decent idea where expansion will go.
