Air Luxor Aircraft (A330) In SYD

For the Sydney members, can you tell me why the Air Luxor aircraft has been sitting at the domestic maintenance facilities for the past four weeks or so?

VH, it's not there all the time !!

It has been chartered by the Government to run services to the Middle East for the armed forces. In fact it departed yesterday, most likely to Kuwait.

The aircraft were actually swapped a couple of weeks back, I think we have CSTQF now.

Air Luxor's A330's ... r they -200's or -300's?

These must be cheap to charter or the government wouldn't be using them.

Anyone have any idea, how much they would be to charter per block hour & their maximum range with maximum load/seating. Anyone know what the maximum seating would be?

I thought it would have been cheaper and easier to lease a QF B767 or A330 instead of the Air Luxor A330

QF are renowned for being very expensive to charter, especially domestically, where the only other option is DJ, unless can use Alliance Airlines F100's but they hve fairly short range, with any load.

They are 300's and why would they be cheap ?? If anything it would be a damn expensive arrangement considering the amount of down time the aircraft has.

Don't know about the seating config, but being a charter company probably 300 +.

The flights usually originate in SYD and go via DRW, then either SIN or direct to Kuwait. Sometimes the flights will originate in BNE, however there does not appear to be any set pattern to the flights.

Thanks for the information. I fly extensively domestically and overseas and try and keep track of the 'odd' aircarft hanging around various ports.

I've been told that the government put out a virtual tender & the cheapest gets it, whether it's a L1011 or a relatively modern A330.

I imagine if charter for troops would be 400 + seats. Air Transat has 363 seats (2 class) on their 330-200's, with 3-3-3 seating in economy, so for a -300

QF don't have any one class 330 & for AD-HOC charters they would reconfigure seating. Australian 767's are one class but not high density seating.
