Rekkof Gives Up.

Fri Nov 04, 2005 2:22 am

No confirmation yet at the Rekkof site (not been update since march), but according to Radio1 and Omroep Flevoland the proposed Fokker restart has been stopped.

Not much of an surprise after all these years.

Yep, with the advent and obvious success of the EMB-170/190/195, the death bell was ringing anyway for this hopeless venture.

In a way a pity, because I would have loved to see more Fokkers produced, but probably inevitable. They missed the window of opportunity (and a few more things, obviously)

Last I heared was they would launch last summer with some big orders from KLM/Air France, VLM and some Iranian airlines. By the time the summer passed and Regional (Air France) decided on the Emb-175 I knew Rekkof missed the boat.
With a loan of only 100-200 million, they could have restarted building only the F-70 and I am sure they would have sold 100s more between 1997 and now... What a sad loss.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Why re-start production on what is now an obsolete a/c? I don't understand the business sense in that. It should have been obvious that it wouldn't sell in the end. Technology in the RJ market has come a long way since the Fokkers' hey-day.

If this is going to be confirmed, we shall probably see a major order from KLM for E-Jet's pretty soon. I have an information for a while, that says that KLM did hold it's order back for the reason as they wanted avoid the political dilemma of being called responsible if Rekkof fails. As they obviously failed now, let's see....

Cheers

Well, I think Embraer took over much of Fokker´s developing team, although some went to Airbus.

Perhaps if they would have designed the F70 & 100 using composites they may have had a shot....

Confusing, today's Telegraaf mentions the opposite:

http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/2...erstart_Fokker_lijkt_dichtbij.html (Dutch only)

The chance of a restart of the Fokker aircraft factory [..] has unexpectedly become bigger with the arrival of plans for the development of a super-economical version of the exisiting passenger jets. With fuel prices being extremely high, KLM supports initiatives to bring the 'new' Fokker 70/100 in the air. Behind the scenes, serious efforts are made to achieve this.

Umm What is their largest Airline supposed to say?

"Gee we are glad that an obsolete aircraft is not going to be built? We are glad to put our countrymen out of work? "

Their press release is a piece of PR that is all. You cannot base their postion on that.

Come on, anybody not directly involved in this venture knew it had ZERO chance of success.
Like Indy Air had zero chance of success
Like the Dornier 728 had zero chance of success
Like the 110-135 seater from Bombardier has zero chance of success
