Now Three A-380s Flying; F-WXXL First Flight Today

Fri Nov 04, 2005 7:58 am

The A-380 testprogram now gains momentum, F-WXXL (cn 002) has made its first flight today from Toulouse. Actually a good thing a first flight already seems routine as I can't find any pictures or news in the database. So here some old pictures

Freakin hell, are we gonna have a new thread for every A380 that flies, granted it may only be 150 for the next 20 years? Big grin

Just wait until the 787 flies, and we will hear threads about every single 787 prototype flying. And hell, why not? This is an aviation forum.

It's a hoax.

Sorry, only in German, but it says that the 3rd A380 will be coming to Hamburg next week to get a complete cabin interior and also a livery. (anyone an idea which livery?)

Does Boeing give a press report on the first flight of every new 737? Maybe it is a sign it's getting routine that they don't. I got this from a very reliable source in Toulouse, wasn't there myself though. Do you have a prove then that the third A-380 didn't fly yet before you make rude statements like this? If you'd first check my background and message history you'd know that I don't make up hoaxes. Maybe they just wanted to do it low key this time.

I am sorry if wrong. But there isn't any trace about this 3rd flight.

No announcement, no pictures, no report.

Not even a Toulousian member to confirm.

And we'are talking about the A380 here.

Will propably be the first one as I don't think they can fit the 3rd with the cabin interior and the livery within a few days. Or they put some Qantas stickers on the 2nd one flying (the white one which was in FRA)  Wink

I was at TLS at about 10.00 local time, and I saw her, but parked as usual opposite the passenger terminal, so either it was a very early morning flight, or she'll be flying later, or my eyes were playing tricks on me!!??

No prob MEA-707. I knew there would have to be a photo somewhere online (Airbus are usually pretty quick in that regard) so it was nice to find one after a bit of searching to back you up.

Thanks for the heads-up on the info anyway  thumbsup .

Be careful with suggesting something like this. Maybe somebody will claim that the whole A380 issue is a hoax by Airbus, and that no A380 has ever actually flown.

Americans are so jealous.

Actually I think Lephron was probably being sarcastic (I'll let him confirm this though) He doesn't really associate with either manufacturer, so it isn't fair to call him jealous.

On topic:

That is great 3 of these birds aloft, hopefully we will get to see all three of them in formation flight. That would be quite amazing. Kudos to Airbus for getting something so big to work and fly.

In fact it was a hoax but Airbus heard that, and quickly put the 3rd prototype in the air. A categorical proof is the lack of paint. It's obvious they were unprepared. But they had no choice but take off, for the picture's sake.

MEA-707, please accept my apologies.

On another side, it's the first non paint aircraft that I see in the air. Is that safe ?

IIRC, MSN002 (F-WXXL) won't join the flight test program until early March 2006. It's going to Hamburg to be fitted out with 850 passenger seats for emergency evacuation tests which are scheduled for January and February of next year.

My understanding was that MSN 001 was going to do the tour or Oz and Asia/Dubai Airshow?

MSN 002 will probably get a white colour again, as it's also one going to Etihad at the end of the flight test programme. As you can see from the pics though it's got the full Airbus tail though.

The papers here said it should be in Hamburg between 8-10th
Here you see half the aircraft fly with the green primer before being painted in their full colours. As the A380 paint shops are in Hamburg, I'd guess all the future ones will be flying 'green'

This plane and MSN 004 will eventually be delivered to Etihad. So, in a sense, EY have an A380 flying before anyone. Who'd have thought it?!

Am I alone in finding it curious that we have to wait for six months for the second A380 to fly but then we get two in the air in as many weeks? I'm not complaining and great to see the A380 "fiasco" (still love that ludicrous thread!) stepping up a gear but I suppose I expected them to be more evenly spaced.

IMO, not curious at all. Both MSN004 and MSN002 were grounded for six months while fixes were made to correct the "wiring harness" and "buffeting" problems.

The six months were more to the fact that you don't want to start kicking out aircraft when you find problems with the first one - you'd then be having to fix all the snags you found there on all the other ones and not implement it in manufacturing already.

Wow, another A380 up! I posted this on another forum, but I think they are not painted in full livery because they wanted to save time and get the planes int he air. Any speculation?

BTW: Being an American, although not entirely patriotic, I feel a little offended by all these posts slanting American products and the like. Yeah, sure, our ECONOMY and our BUISNESSES may like to be the biggest and the best, but the average middle class family DOES NOT. If you can't say anything nice, or at least, anything with any valid back up, for the love of god, spare us. We're not the only country in the world with any kind of bigotry population.

Nothing to do with that. All A380s, except for the first two, will be painted in Hamburg. And since they can't taxi the thing all the way from TLS to HAM, they have to fly before being painted.  Wink This was planned from day one, nothing to do with trying to save time.

I couldn't agree with you more. While I hate the comments of some (American) Anetters that just have to say a negative comment about everything connected to Airbus (and they ARE worse than the Airbus freaks), I think this US bashing has no space here. The US are a great country, the Chevrolet Corvette is a great car (I prefer a Porsche, but I cannot afford both), and Boeing makes great airplanes.

So as much as I hate people bitching Airbus, I dislike bitching Boeing or the USA just as much.
