B6 Launching JFK-BOS Next Week: A Look At Bookings

Fri Nov 04, 2005 12:23 pm

So JetBlue is launching JFK-BOS service (8x, up to 10x by a few weeks) starting on Tuesday. I've been searching through their online database and those flights seem to be selling out like crazy! Those $40 base fares are very rare for the next few weeks, and there are even some flights beginning to sell out. Many higher-end $100 and $120 one-way fares are available too.

So, advanced bookings for the route look to be extremely impressive. However, even more interesting will be to see how much is booked within the next few days. JFK-BOS, mostly aimed at last-minute buyers (see: high frequency and low fares), should be getting a whole bunch of 5- to 1-day advanced bookings.

It looks like the route will be a success, which is especially funny as it is being launched during the slowest time of the year.

I guess people want to fly from JFK to BOS afterall. Will we see an effect on DL's and US's loads out of LGA? Despite what many think, DL and US have not lowered their Shuttle fares. Only AA and DL have lowered their JFK fares.

Your thoughts?

DL and US will not lower prices, as JFK/BOS traffic has not affected them (yet). With JetBlue picking up flight frequency, things could certainly change!

I'm on the first flight, #1001 BOS-JFK Big grin I cannot wait. I do hope this will bring fares down, although as a TrueBlue member I will be sticking with JetBlue whenever I can. However, at what point is there going to be overcapacity issues with the BOS-JFK route?
A-10 Thunderbolt II, ugly as hell, efficient as hell, would you like to meet my boomstick?

If JetBlue can operate 10x daily without hurting US/DL, then there will obviously be more expansion potential for JetBlue. The question should be...would JetBlue raise fares ever so slighty? Or add frequency?

JetBlue from day one of operation has discovered - if you build it they will come. Legacies said no one wanted to fly domestically out of JFK for years. TWA tried it and backed off. Pan Am had one a day domestic flights to feed their JFK International Flights. Delta put in its Express product (mostly to Florida) with old aircraft out of JFK and also continued the Pan Am tradition of feeding JFK International flights.

JetBlue turned all that on its head and stimulated demand that was in the market for years but never tapped. I suspect they will do the same thing going to Boston and take many people off the road or Amtrak.

Southwest took over ISP from the big boys much the same way.

I wish them continued success and luck. Their service is awesome.

So the first flight is BOS-JFK? Does anybody know if there are any special festivites planned at JFK (or BOS)?

Besides Drewfly, are there any other a.netters planning to be on this flight? Might be a good one for a trip report....
None shall pass!!!!
