Cathay In Vancouver Question

Fri Nov 04, 2005 2:32 pm

I am going to South East Asia with Cathay in December with Vancouver being the departure point.

MY question is what type of aircraft I will get on these flights?

22 DEC 13:40 CX 839

09 Jan 14:55 CX 888

Am I getting the A 340 on the CX 839? I mean HKG - Vancouver is a very busy route. Do they vary equipement on this particular flight or will I be able to get an A 346 or a B744?

Hmmm, it's a 343 now going to HKG? I haven't flown that route for... 7 years. Used to do it a few times a year when I was going to school there.

Have a fun trip, enjoy the spotting in HKG  Smile

Looks like you'll be getting the A340 on the way down and a B744 on the way back. CX uses a mix of the A343 and A346 on the YVR-HKG flights. The B744 is a part of the HKG-YVR-JFK flight.

CX should really look into A380 to meet the demand, they'd need 12, easily, at least 4 for LHR, at least 2 for LAX, 2 for YVR-JFK, 2 for SFO, 2 for FRA, all of those can also make regional hops during the day (not every day, but NRT, BKK, TPE) if needed.

I think you got the opposite.

The A340-300 or 600 is part of the HKG-YVR-JFK service

HKG-YVR is done by the 744.

Maybe if you are lucky, you will be on the Spirit of Hong Kong!!

On those dates CX 838/839 is goiing to be operated by the A340 and 888/889 will be operated by the B744. As of DEC 1 they switch currently 838/839 is the B744 and 888/889 is the A343/346

I was lucky enough to be on B-HOY (Asia's World City) on the Hong Kong to Bangkok sector in 2004. Was really excited when it pulled up to my departure gate. Keep them coming!

According to CX's wesbsite the JFK-YVR-HKG flight (CX889) is operated by a B744 and flight CX839 (YVR-HKG) is operated by the A340 for that date.

They must switch it sometimes, because I think I saw a CX 340 going to JFK last time I was at YVR.

Wow, that would be awesome! I think the only 2 posible airlines would be LH and CX. Do you think we wil ever see 380s at YVR?

So it's the A340 up until Dec.1 then switching to the B744.
