DFW: Passenger Growth, QF/CX Next?

Sat Nov 05, 2005 3:15 am

A very interesting article available here discussing D/FW's passenger numbers and financial performance for the fiscal year ending 30 September. Passenger numbers grew 0.9% year-over-year, despite the loss of Delta's hub, and the airport recorded a profit of $15.1M on revenue of $475M.

Interestingly, the article also included a small paragraph at the bottom stating:

And the airport is talking with Qantas and Cathay Pacific airlines about bringing their international flights to D/FW.

Many have discussed this here and elswhere, but could we perhaps finally be seeing Qantas and Cathay Pacific landing at D/FW, and parking at the beautiful new Terminal D, in the not-too-distant future?

Both are Oneworld partner airlines with AA, so it would make sense for them to take advantage of the connection opportunities AA offers at DFW. I don't think Qantas will come until if/when they order and receive some 777LR's as it has been discussed here before. It would be great to see them both at DFW.

Yeah, I've seen probably 30 of these type of articles about DFW "talking to" airlines ranging from Iberia to Eva to Cathay to even Emirates. It's good to hear but if anything were to happen it would be years before they start up service. I'd say Cathay before Qantas but AA would prolly jump in with 10x weekly service if Cathay announced DFW. It's still fun to consider these things, though.

Now we will open up the forum for 5-6 Houstonians to downplay any chance of DFW getting any new carriers and point out the various statistics that make Houston the absolute most diverse city in the country and how IAH will do this and that in the future.  yawn

While DFW might make sense for CX and/or QF, I would think both of those airlines would pick ORD first.

Eva Cargo does serve DFW, though  Smile

QF and CX would be great to see at DFW, but we've been hearing the QF rumor since the mid-90s. CX rumor has been off and on since 2000. They are no doubt talking to both QF and CX as well as many other airlines, but it will likely not happen in the near future. Maybe a few more years down the line.

Nope...and for all the insightful reasons that Bartond stated  wink . So without any further hesitation, let the IAH v DFW, games begin....(for the 100th time)!  box

Well CX cargo starts later this month so we will see some CX planes at DFW very shortly.

DFW will be served by CX/QF only if they are tags onto pre-existing flights such as SFO, or LAX. Dont look for CX/QF to offer DFW terminating nonstop flights from Hong Kong and Sydney. There is not enough demand from O/D to justify the route with connections. And CX/QF are not going to expend metal on a nonstop flight that may or may not have enough connecting passengers.

ORD is much higher on the list for CX/QF than DFW.

QF had planned to come to DFW in 2002, in fact, they had already announced it..but because of 9/11, SARS, etc...they scrapped that plan...

AA would LOVE to see QF, CX, IB bring some pax into DFW, though AA is quite strong in MIA with IB flying in....

I would like to see a flight to Spain, whether it is on AA or IB, from DFW.

I thought that AA offered a MAD service from DFW back in the 90s.

I agree that ORD would be a better choice for CX (if AA doesn't start the service first) but I think DFW would be QF's first choice. My reasoning is that the HKG flights would be coming from the north so it would be more convenient for connections, while the QF flight would be coming from the south.
