Will this one stay at Airbus I assume or will she be delivered to an airline somewhere?
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

It goes to Etihad after testing. So does MSN004 that also flew recently. Only MSN001 will stay with Airbus.

All of the 4 other flight test aircraft (apart from MSN001) will be going to Etihad - the Engine Alliance test aircraft will be re-engined back to RR for delivery. So it goes from RR to EA to RR again!
They must have got a good deal on that!

Why couldn't Airbus find an Engine Alliance customer (like EK) to take MNS007 instead of having to re-engine it for delivery to Etihad. Isn't this unsual...I don't recall a similar procedure with flight test aircraft in other programs?

Especially as they are first flying it with Trents, then re-engining it to GP7000s just to re-re-engine it to Trents. Somehow this makes no sense to me.

The 777 prototype was re-engined from PW to RR and delivered to Cathay. The first A330 was re-engined from GE to RR, also for delivery to Cathay.

Yes, has been done before. Prototype of the A330-200 MSN181 had f/f with GE-engines (-202), converted to RR (-242) for flighttests and again converted to PW (-223) for delivery to OS. Still flying with OS as OE-LAO.

They won´t do it. See reply 4.

Thanx for the information Scorpio. Is MSN007 a prototype or a production standard aircraft?

Anyway, I can't wait to see it in EK, EY, and QR colors.

I might be incorrect, but I thought MSN007 will always have RR and won´t get a reconfig. If it gets, you guys are right, sorry.

My information says that MSN009 will be first and thus only proto with EA (5th A380 to fly).

Latest Airbus press report also only speaks of MSN009 getting EA:

I guess both you and we are right  Smile . There will be 2 A380s which will be re-engined. MSN007 gets Trents first, will then get GPs and after that will get Trents again. MSN 009 starts with GPs and is later re-engined to Trents, all information according to Flug Revue 11/2005, p. 26.

I really think it is strange that they are re-engining 2 airplanes.

Yes, tehre will be only one prototype with EA engines. I'll have to check what it's engined first as then! I only heard that like all the others it's been delayed.

Apart from the fact that every 777LR flight was commented here as well, the A380 is quite another caliber in terms of aviation history than the certainly remarkable E170. Apart from that, it was noted in this forum that the E170 was introduced at Cirrus Airlines, just to mention one event.

And as people are complaining and commenting every A380 delay, I see no reason why it shouldn't be mentioned that Airbus brought 2 A380s into the air in 3 weeks.

Don't let them turn this into another A vs. B. We all know that B gets no subsidies, they only get tax rebates that they don't need, considering that you can't earn money if you give planes away for free. (Or what else is selling a successor for less than the predecessor?)

It is in one hand but the runway extension is necessary for MTOW TO, and for the future models (Freighter andpossibly -900).

Airbus' test pilots can land and TO on/from XFW's runway as it is but there was a certain level of uncertainty regarding the delivery flights pilots from the airlines who will take-off from there in case of troubles, so they decided to lengthen the runway.

And I confirm that MSN 007 will change engines twice (RR to EA to RR).

It is necessary to test it with full cabin (hence full electrical load) with both engine types for power supply generator certification.

MSN 009 will get EAfirst, and then RR before going to ETD.
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.
