Indy Colts' 757-300 To BED, Not BOS...why?

Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:45 pm

The Indianapolis Colts flew to New England yesterday for their game tonight against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Most often, visiting teams fly to Providence. Not this time. Boston? Guess again. The Northwest 757-300 landed instead at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts. After disgorging its cargo of high-priced talent, the 757 then flew Bedford to Boston...a six-minute flight according to Flytecomm.com. For those who don't know, Bedford to Boston is like O'Hare to Midway in terms of distance.

So, why not go to Boston in the first place if that is where the 757-300 was needed next? The only thing I can fathom is that the team hotel (wherever it is) happens to be closer to BED than to BOS. But if their hotel is down around the stadium area, then BOS and BED are both about the same distance. I used to live near Hanscom Field in Bedford and would have loved to see that 757-300 there. It was horrible weather yesterday upon arrival.

Weather forecast tonight is for localized snow, limited to a spot exactly where the stadium is located.  liar  liar

Maybe NW are trying to keep the fees down by doing a "ryanair", just em in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe bOS couldn't fit the flight in for Handling?

When someone (Colts) charters an aircraft, they get to pick the origin and destination. The airline quotes a price and if its agreeable a contract is signed. The contact is for the whole season. If playoff games become necessary, the a new contact is negotiated.

Indy needs to get a sniper to take out the convict with the snowplow if things get tough.

What time did they come in? There were thunderstorms here in Boston last night. They may have been diverted to BED due to the weather or simply to avoid delays and the team decided to bus it from BED rather than wait to go with the plane to BOS.

Actually the Colts usually fly into PVD rather than BOS. What I have noticed for when teams fly into an airport other than PVD it is in most cases due to the team;s hotel location. I.E. If they are staying at the Ritz Carlton in Boston, they will use BOS not PVD. So my guess is it was a hotel issue

The flight arrived BED around five-ish yesterday afternoon. The T-storms came through several hours later. But since they're so close, BED and BOS had the same weather at the same time.

As for the game, Indy should win...and easily. NE is decimated and Indy is hitting on all cylinders. There is NO way Indy can lose tonight and put a good spin on things...they will be a laughing stock of the NFL if they lose or at least barely win. If Indy wins, no one will care. They'll say that they were supposed to win anyway. So, to the Indy fans: don't get full of yourselves if you win tonight. You're SUPPOSED to win. You're EXPECTED to win.

This is true, the hotel usually dictates where they fly into. Most teams stay at the Westin in downtown PVD, hence using PVD airport.

Maybe it is because the bus ride around Rt. 128/I-95 is quicker than driving through downtown Boston at "rush" hour to the South Shore.

No way, The Pats OWN the Colts. The banged up Pats are still a better team than a fully heathy Colts. Patriots = 32 Colts = 17, I believe the current line is Pats +7.

I know many teams stay at the Dedham Hilton, having once had a steady gig there. It's right off 128, as is Hanscom (more or less), so that may have played a role - it's much easier to get there from BED than from BOS.

LOL - if only that were true. Still, the Flying Elvii are in Manning's and the Colts heads. The Colts really should win, but that's why they actually play these games.

With the Pats' secondary being manned by the lucky fan of the week, I have to admit they should beat us up pretty good this time around. While I won't hide behind the "too many good players injured" excuse, I'll just simply say the Colts have no excuse to NOT win this time...

...Go Pats

I agree it's more than likely an issue with Hotel Location. Rarely do I see the NFL Charters at IAH for Texans games. A Colts NW DC-10 a few years back. The Bucccaneers 57 a few years back as well. I think most team fly into Ellington.

LOL. That was funny. I agree with you ,the secondary look like the M*A*S*H unit... But look at the Pats first 6 games ( Pittsburg in PIT, Carolina in CLT, Denver in DEN , Atlanta in ATL, and a very good San Diego Team. ) And the Colts have built that intimidating schedule playing a who's who of ...well who ? Popcorn State ? Cupcake Tech???? Don't believe the hype Indy fans..WE'RE IN YOUR HEADS ..

In all honesty, I didn't think that any of BED's runways were large enough to handle a 753. Learn something new everyday. I wonder how the NIMBYs over in Bedford & Lexington reacted when they heard and/or saw it fly in?  duck

Darn, I live 5 miles from BED, and could have witnessed a NW 757-300 land at BED. Argh, if only this were posted earlier.  banghead

7001 feet is plenty for a 753. 6001 feet would be enough to make IND.

Well keep an eye out for the departure, they may leave right from PVD or maybe they'll leave from BED.
