Question About AA's Presence In Terminal D

Tue Nov 08, 2005 9:41 am

I was extremely bored a little while ago, and went to AA's flight status webpage, and typed in a random flight number (606) It was (what I'm assuming) a 757 from PHX to DFW and then on to SJU. When it landed at DFW, it went into D-34, and left out of D-25. How common is this sort of thing, a domestic flight, with an international continuation going into Terminal D? What about strictly domestic flights? Are AA's T7 ops completely out of Terminal D, as I think I read sometime?

Maybe some of my AA / DFW buddies can help me out. Where's Commavia when you need him?

Thanks in Advance!
Cheers,
Cameron

It looks like Flt 606 changed equipment in DFW and as for the T7/767 are all out of Terminal D expect for the 3 Hawaii Flts that still go to Terminal A and C

Oh, ok, that makes sense. Thanks a bunch! Maybe, I'll find a domestic 76' or 777 in the next year or two, and fly out of that beautiful terminal.

RE: Question About AA's Presence In Terminal D

Well, I had the misfortune of flying into Terminal D on AA 71 from FRA last Friday.

An enjoyable, :20 early flight turned into a bit of a nightmare when AA was simply unable to get the bags to the bag claim belt in a timely fashion. I rec'd my bag :55 after arrival, surrounded by angry fellow passengers who were now going to miss their connections.

For reasons never explained, an AA flight from SJO (2166) ended up with their bags on the belt designated for 71 (#8), even though that flight arrived well after ours and was supposed to be dumped on another belt (#2). This plugged up #8, contributing to the problem.

By the time we were finally able to get our bags, the Customs facility became the bottleneck as 71, 2166 and the LH FRA flight all tried to get through this funnel at the same time. By the time I got to the street, it was :75 after landing and I was thankful I did not have a connecting flight.

It was clear AA was not in control...and could offer no explanation other than to repeatedly say thank you for choosing American Airline by an employee who did not seem to understand the name of his own company...which ends with an "s".

I am voting with my feet, so to speak, and switched my reservations for an upcoming Asian trip from AA to JL - I would much rather go through customs at ORD than DFW-Terminal D!!

I will try AA again after they have a chance to "get with the program"...in a few months.

Obviously (at least I hope), this should not be a problem for a domestic arrival.

I understand your frustrations, and while living in AUS I can't say that I've ever tried DFW as my final destination, but from what I've heard, the main reason that AA delayed their move into Terminal D is because of problems with the Baggage Claim. I don't know specifically what the issues were with them, though. Now from your description, this doesn't sound like problems with "baggage claim reliability" as I think I remember it being described, but just poor assignment on AAs part. As for connecting through ORD (which I assume thats what your doing) I must confess I don't really understand that move. I've had some pretty bad experiences going through ORD, because the weather there is so unpredictable, but if your going throgh ORD, why switch to JL again? They both have non-stop flights to NRT.

DBC,

I too understand your frustrations, but please remember that the employees are new to the terminal as well and we are still adjusting to a totally new why of doing things. I hope you will fly AA again and give us another chance.

Now for why it took 55mins for your bags is another story, their is a great chance that Flt 71 arrived at shift change, which is challenging and frustrating part of this job. I know that's not your fault but their are a lot of other possible reasons that could have delayed your bags like MX problem with the cargo doors, ground equipment, manpower issues and these are just a few off the top of my head.

Once again I'm sorry for the bad experience, but I do hope you will continue to fly AMERICAN AIRLINES in the future
