Northwest Seeks Temporary Pay Cuts For Some

Wed Nov 09, 2005 2:24 am

I am really losing faith in NW, and have moved my business flying away from them.

"We believe that what they are asking for is way too much and unfair," said Bobby DePace, president of District 143 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

"We have clerical people that make 10 to 12 bucks an hour," he said.

If NW continues to lose 400+ million every three months, they will be gone sooner rather than later. This is a prudent move to try to avoid liquidation.

Since was a job guaranteed? God forbid any of you all start a business and then have the costs of doing business rise expoentially and you have to layoff some of your employees. Buy a clue - it's a business, not a charity.

I was handed a similar paycut a few years ago at a time that I couldn't envision dealing with it. Tough situation. With the words "There is no entitlement" blazed into my head it was clear that there were two options:
1. Accept it and move forward
2. Seek other employment

Hopefully these people (whom I sympathize greatly with) will have the clarity to chose one of these options. It seems best for the health  Smile

Understand also that the pay cuts mentioned above (19 percent) are only 60 percent of the required "negotiated" settlement that will be made within the two months or BK will likely grant the request to abrogate the contract.
