Air New Zealand LGW-DFW-HNL-AKL?

Wed Nov 09, 2005 6:44 am

I was leafing thru the 12/88 North American OAG preparing the auction listing and I was surprised to see that TE's flight 1 was a weekly nonstop DFW to HNL. Even tho it's a North American OAG the itinerary section shows the full route: LGW-DFW-HNL-AKL. Anybody got an idea how long that lasted?

Incidentally, there were 14 airlines scheduled LAX-HNL then.

Air New Zealand international flights used to use TE for their IATA code and NZ for their domestic.

Now they only use NZ for all flights

Why would they have been using LGW? Don't they have the right to fly LHR-US?

In any case, a strange routing as I don't think AA had any agreement with NZ at the time. Hmmm...

I actually remember when NZ flew to DFW. It was a brief period, only lasted for 6 months or so. They did not have LHR slots at the time.

Air New Zealand international flights used to use TE

They were originally TEAL-- Tasman Empire Air Lines (?).

If I'm not mistaken, they also flew AKL-PPT-DFW-LGW for a period of time

It started in late 87 as AKL-PPT-DFW-LGW weekly which lasted for about a year, and the in the last 6 months PPT was replaced by HNL.

Sure was an interesting routing at the time!
