Texas Airline Battle:CO Vs AA

Fri May 19, 2000 10:31 am

out of the two texas based airlines that serve INTERNATIONAL, who has the most routes? AA-Dallas or CO-houston, and also, who has the bigger and deeper hub? (again, AA-DFW or CO-IAH) and final ques: who has more or bigger plans to expand (CO-IAH, and hobby or AA-DFW)?
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

I don't have the data, but I believe AA's hub in DFW is larger overall. However, I believe that CO goes to more international destinations from IAH.

DFW is a larger hub for AA. However I to belive CO serves more International destinations out of IAH. But for size AA is much larger than us. We have 370 mainline jets, and approx. 170 COEX. planes.

Uhhhh, Doug, I don't think "Miami" is an airline. LAXFlyer was saying CO serves more international cities than any U.S. AIRLINE. (and I'm assuming he's counting all CO hubs, not just from Houston).

Which, if you think about it, makes sense. Continenal Micronesia accounts for a lot. Europe, South America, Middle East, etc. too.

I do not know if he is talking about more international cities served from one specific hub or the entire airlines international routes

I thought the original question was AA-DFW vs. CO-IAH. Here is a list of int'l cities AA serves from DFW:
Belize
Calgary
Caracas
Cancun
Frankfurt
Guadalajara
Guatemala City
London (Gatwick)
Mexico City
Monterrey
Montreal
Osaka
Paris CDG
Puerto Vallarta
San Jose Cabo
San Jose, Costa Rico
Santiago, Chile
Sao Paulo
Tokyo Narita
Toronto
Vancouver

That's 21 foreign cities on 4 continents (N. America, S. America, Europe, and Asia) from DFW. I don't know how many Continental has from IAH, but AA has a lot. (if I missed any, let me know). I think they start service to Zurich from DFW soon.

Guadalajara
Guatamala City
Guayaquil
Hermosillo
Ixtapa
Lima
London
Managua
Mazatlan
Merida
Mexico City
Monterrey
Panama City
Paris
Puebla
Puerto Vallarta
Quito
Saltillo
San Luis Potosi
San Jose
San Jose de Cabo
San Pedro Sula
San Salvador
Santa Cruz
Sao Paulo
Tampico
Tegucigalpa
Tokyo
Toronto

Veracruz

That makes 41 destinations on four continents.
They have also applied for new service to Cali, Columbia.
We also have one stop service to Santiago, Chile, via Lima.

Well the argument of Continental's Houston hub having the most intl flights than any other U.S airlines holds no weight
Continental's-Houston hub 41 intl flights
American's Miami hub 51 intl flights

Doug, The statement I made was, Our airline flies to more international destinations then any other US airline. That mean all hubs. Not just Houston.

Does "Continental" or Continental AND all its affiliates (i.e. Continental Micronesia, Continental Express) serve all those countries?

I find that hard to beleive, but if you have done your math then you are right. If CO has all of these intl flights then why is not considered one of the big three (i.e)American United and Delta. It just does not make sense to me that CO out of basically 2 hubs Houston and Newark can have more intl flights than American flyingout of Miami,DFW,ORD,and San Juan

They were very correct when saying Continental serves more international destinations than any other U.S. major carrier.
