Why only YYZ-HKG and not both ways as they have a technical stop both ways in ANC.

HKG-YYZ is non-stop except during the summer season, when the tail winds over the North Pacific is not strong enough to give that extra push. In fact, the switch to one-stop HKG-YYZ had just occured on May 1st.

I took CX828/829 YYZ-HKG/HKG-YYZ back in Dec/Jan, and on the way there, the flight was an agonizing 20 hours with a stop in Anchorage.

On the way back, however, the flight was non-stop and took only 14 hours.

The fact it was non stop only on YYZ-HKG is because on this route they can benefit from flying with the jet stream wind effect behind them.
I am astonished to see on their summer timetable that they're going to operate the YYZ-HKG flight non stop !
This could be the longest A340 flt ever !!

Anyway with CX the time is elapsed quickly it is such a good airline ...!!!

It Was Last Night

Sun May 21, 2000 12:22 am

The flight was on May 20'th departing at around 1:25am, it lasted about 14 hours which is about three hours shorter then the flight would have been with the stop in Ancourage. It was only a test, and they can't make it a regular service, until Russia can upgrade it's ATC service and have a few more basic english speaking controllers....

I heard AA is experimenting ETOPS transpolar with the 777. Has any one heard any details on these test flights?
