Airlines That Fly To The 5 Continents?

Thu Nov 10, 2005 12:55 am

What airlines fly to all continents? I´m thinking about AF, although I´m not sure if they fly to Australia.

Can you help me out?

MH /SA / BA each fly to all six inhabited continents Africa ; Asia ; Australia ; Europe ; North America ; South America

I could be wrong but I think they are the only ones since QF pulled out of EZE a few years ago

KL used to fly to all 5 continents (Asia, Australia,Europe, Africa and America), therefore the 5 circles (crown) in their logo. The horizontal bar underneath represents the connection between the continents by KL.

Too bad Kl dropped services to SYD.

nice story - but I suggest you count the dots on the crown again - there are only 4 - or did they change it when they dropped SYD

No Oz for AF  Sad Now does PPT count for Oceania? I would assume yes, but BA still beats them by serving all continents MAINLAND...

BA flies to six continents: Oceania, Africa, S Am, N Am, Asia, Europe. And you can subdivide Asia in how many sub-continents you wish, they still serve all of them (Middle East/Arabic Peninsula : yes, India: yes, Far East : yes!)
When I doubt... go running!

.. Oceania is a region , not a continent - so AF would need to fly to Australia ( which BA do of course ) to qualify for six continents - ( I suppose AF could fly to Antarctica - they have a base there , but not a lot of traffic )

If CO flew to Lagos they would also be included. They are really close now since TLV is within spitting distance to Africa.

This one might come as a surprise but Thomsonfly/Britannia serves all 6 Continents.

Not bad for an airline with a fleet of only about 40 aircraft!

Aeroflot (still in Soviet Union times) used to have a slogan "... on all the continents". Was that true? They definitely covered two continents by just domestic routes  Smile. I know for sure their routes covered both Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa. Anybody knows if they have ever flown to Australia?

I am not sure about Soviet Union times but in sometime between '93 and '95 SU had a service to Australia with a technical stop in Katmandu.

The source of information is their routes map in the inflight magazine.

Well... what do you say? Is Cuba in South America? Every card shows you "Central America", but as we know, Central America isn't a continent...

If yes, OS flies to all continents, they have saisonal (charter-)flights to Varadero.

Hi Futurestar68

Generally speaking ( I say that because there will always be those with other opinions !) the Caribbean is included in "North America" for example the "Oneworld explorer" fare breaks the globe into 6 "continent" zones

North America includes

Canada , USA , Mexico , Caribbean , Central America

South America includes

everything below Panama

so if on that fare you fly SCL LA HAV IB MAD you have gone from the South American Zone through the North American zone to the European Zone.

But be warned , there are probably as many opinions on this as there are members of Anet - I am just giving you my  twocents

Those days were great, when LH used BKK as a hub for their MEL/SYD flights.Lots of LH equipment lined up here between 10pm and 0200am
every night. Now with KUL, CGK and HCM it is about the same again. ( Previously we had MNL too).
However, the greatest times were 20 years ago when BKK was used as
a hub for LH's DC-10 Flights to NRT. Lots of traffic here....

Does KL Asia count as KLM? Is P.S. really UA?

Try to book/call or ticket with CMI. Or locate a CMI pilot? They are a wholely owned.

CNS used to be 3x weekly as was DPS, but the loss of TWOV is really hurting conx traffic.

See reply #7 of this thread. Apparently is Lufthansa thinking about returning to Australia when the A380 is delivered:

according to travelbiz.com.au, the Lufthansa General Manager for Australia stated that LH is examing the feasibility of deploying the A380 on routes to Australia. apparently, the lower seat costs of this huge bird suggest to LH that a return down under could be viable.

Olympic used to serve all 6 continents a few years back: Asia (Bangkok), Australia (Sydney), Europe (London, Paris, Rome...), Africa (Nairobi and Johannesburg), South America (Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro) and North America (New York, Boston, Toronto and Montreal)

Virgin Atlantic will serve all six continents (providing you consider their LHR, LGW and MAN bases as destinations in Europe), once they start their 'wishlist' flights to Rio De Janeiro.

JAL serve 5: Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Australia.

Korean serve 5: Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and Africa.

Cathay serve 5: Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and Africa

Delta used to serve 5 continents at one point a few years back too: North America (loads), South America (Sao Paulo, Caracas...), Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt...), Asia (Mumbai, Chennai and Tokyo) and Africa (Cairo)

Air India, Etihad, PIA, Air Mauritius, Gulf Air, Iberia (5 if you consider TLV in asia?), TAP, Royal Jordanian, Air Tahiti Nui, Aerolineas Argentina, Saudi Arabian and Turkish all serve 4 continents.

This varies...

Here in Latin America (and language plays a huge role on such matters) we learn that "strictu sensu" there are 5 continents:
Africa
America (USA is not America)
Asia
Europe
Oceania

So, following this definition AF would qualify. If you consider Australia as the continent you´d have to narrow it down to BA. But then to which continent New Zealand and Tahiti belong?
