Congratulations to Hawaiian!

Let's hope that things continue to go well for them... fantastic load factors too by the way!

I took 4 segments on Hawaiian in the past week and was amazed at an estimated 90% load factor (or above) on all flights.

Good for Hawaiian. I flew with them back in June from SAN-HNL-SAN and it was a pleasant 5.5 hour flight.

My only quirk was paying $5 to rent earphones and only watch one movie the entire flight. No matter, I bought a Sony PSP and that problem was quickly solved.

I enjoyed their service and look forward to flying with them again.

As a fellow laid off HA employee, I agree. I wouldn't mind having another chance to go back to work at HA.

Well with this extra money they can probably lease extra B767 to increase service around its network.

Here's the Honolulu Advertiser article as well...

Getting more 767s is probably a pressing matter as far as fleet expansion. There should be quite a few vacationing in the CA and AZ desert spas. The -200 should be considered for small market runs. A couple of -300s will help alleviate some pressure and keep a reserve or 2. Does Boeing have any unclaimed/undelivered new-build 767s @ any of their plants?

I wonder if HA has ever considered the -400 series for their LAX and SFO (or even LAS) flights out of HNL.

It would be interesting to see -200s and/or -400s in HA colors.

I would think the -400 would be a good high yeild option for Hawaiian. Lots of capacity for those Vegas, LA, and SFO runs, and it seems like a reliable plane. Maybe it's in the works.....

The problem is money, money, money. There actually aren't many 767's relegated to the desert now. US airlines may be hurting, but Asia and Europe are expanding like crazy and snapping up all avaiable 767's at fairly high prices; higher than the execs at HA want to pay. So they're stuck - they won't buy new 767's because they're waiting for the 787 or A350. They can't buy decent used 767's because the market is too hot. However there is already a long line for the next-gen widebodies, and HA isn't likely to start getting deliveries until 2012 or later, even if they order now.

Going for a -200 or -400 right now add enormous cost to the operation because they are not all that similar to the -300 HA uses now. Spare parts, maintenance etc would eat into that profitable bottom line.

Boeing does not build aircraft unless there is a firm order. Occasonally an airline will back out from a lease deal where the lessor has already ordered the plane, but in today's market that doesn't happen often. So no, there aren't any 767's just sitting around looking for a buyer.

The -300 actually has lower seat-mile cost than the -400. That is why it has worked so well for HA, and why they're looking for more of the same.
