Does Icelandair Fly 757-300's To The US?

Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:29 am

It seems their 752's are getting a bit long in the tooth, and am wondering if one can catch one of the 753's from one of the U.S. gateways. Anybody know?

Doesn't their single 753 fly twice-daily KEF-LHR and KEF-CPH?

Though not on a regular basis, the 757-300 does visit JFK occasionally. Most likely an equipment sub.

I think the 753 was a great choice for FI. It was good for busier routes to Europe and the US. I think they ordered more than one. What happened to the other FI 753s? why did they get rid of them? and so quickly?

I think the 753 would have ideally complimented FIs 752 fleet.

Icelandair mostly uses their only 757-300 (TF-FIX) on the KEF-LHR and KEF-CPH legs. They have also used it to some extent on their Iceland-USA routes, but I think they mostly did that last summer while they had one of the Loftleidir 767-300's (TF-FIB) flying to SFO and some of the other US destinations as well as to LHR.

They did order two 757-300's, but they cancelled their second one (which would probably have become TF-FIY) after it was clear that the 757 line would be closed down. The second one was supposed to be delivered in 2005 I think.

I don't know if they have any plans to acquire some second hand 757-300's in they future or not.

They have however placed an order for some 787's

The first 757-200 is currently in GSO being fitted with winglets...

Isn't the 753 a bit lacking in range compared to the 752?

Of the subject, is Iceland returning to SFO next year? Was SFO good for them?

Yes, but it has more than enough range for anything FI would want to do.

Any word on the tail number for this plane? Saw it earlier this week over at TIMCO (an Alitalia 767 and Austrian 767 were also there for European birds...it's always a guess as to which foreign birds are going to be over there).

I have been on the 753 kef-bos in february. You shouldn't wish for it though. The seats on that thing are hard as rock and I think the pitch is less than at least the front part of the economy cabin of most of their 752's. Luckily the load was very light, as opposed to the CPH-KEF sector where it's packed all the time.
