Jetblue In ROC

Fri May 19, 2000 10:13 pm

I heard Jetblue will start service to Rochester New York sometime this summer. I can't wait. I will be nice to have a good lowfare airline serve my home city. I just might be able to take leave more often and head back home now.

About Time!

Fri May 19, 2000 10:31 pm

I agree, KROC. No more $1.50/mile flights to New York City for us! Let's hope they don't pull an Eastwind on us.

I've been looking forward to this. I'm pretty sure they'll have the first A320 service to Rochester. It'll make a nice change.

Well, there's always the old standby... Keith's Frozen Custard

Also, the parking lot of Tremor's Nightclub on Scottsville Rd can provide some dramatic take-off views, if there's anything "dramatic" about US DC-9s and Dash-8s.

A bunch of my family members still live in Buffalo and have flown on JetBlue. they have good things to say about them. Nice, clean, modern, A320's.
I've never been over to ROC...how is that airport? sounds pretty dull from your posts. BUF has gotten quite active since they built the new terminal and added gates. Finally brought themselves in to the 21st century. I used to hang out there all the time as a kid. Now it's all 737's, F-100's, MD80's, DC-9's, etc. Maybe a UPS 757 if you're lucky!
Nothing can beat the mid-late 1970's in BUF when American flew a couple DC-10's in daily from O'hare, and Eastern came through with a daily L-1011.

KROC, where did you hear of the news from? So if that is true, for the first time we would have service to ROC on Airbus jets! BTW, have we ever had jets that have come to ROC other than regional jets, turboprops, DC-8's and 707's (both passenger and freighter versions), 727's, DC-9's, F-100's, 737's and MD-80's? Though I remember that in 1995 we had a Concorde come here when the European Ryder Cup team came to play, it seems as if the largest passenger jet used on regular flights to ROC is the MD-80. What other jets have paid ROC visit? What did the American team come on BTW for that match?

Anyhow, it would really be nice and exciting to have a new and growing airline fly in and out of us with Airbus 320's.

And ZRB2, to answer your question, in the early 1990's ROC went through major renovations with the building of a new terminal. ROC is actually a nice and clean airport, though it is rather small and has fewer and fewer jet flights coming in and out. And what does Continental now fly here with ever since they got rid of all of their 727's? Did they just completely stop service to here and instead use Continental Express with turboprops?

About Continental!

Sat May 20, 2000 1:12 pm

I used to spotting like 2 days a week. I taken a Continental MD-80 in the early morning at 4 months ago. Four weeks ago, they were using the Boeing 737-800. Usually they would use these aircrafts for the flight from EWR to ROC for the evening flight. Should be arrival in Rochester at 9:00PM-9:30PM and stay over night departure at the early morning of 6:30AM-7:30AM. However, the size of the aircraft is depending on how much passenger (I think!!). Right now, they are using the Embraer 120ER for that flight. They all I know!!

About ROC Airport!

Sat May 20, 2000 1:20 pm

I really confused. The air ticket between ROC and BUF are big different! Before I was planning to take a flight from ROC to JFK. The fare if I take any airlines flight departure ROC, It's around $160-$200. However, I bought the ticket from BUF to JFK, only $98. ROC is a good airport, but the air ticket fare too expensive. Every one who's living in Rochester, they are waiting for the airline likes JetBlue coming.

ZRB2: Our airport has been modernized, and expanded in anticipation of increased growth that never happened. Now it's a mausoleum, albeit a nice one. If a great deal of traffic came through here, we could certainly handle the crush. But really, how many pax can fit on a Dash 8?

PH-BZA, US used to fly 737-400s here, but I think the largest are the UA and Delta 727s. JetBlue will earn that destinction when the A320 touches down,

I remember the whole Concorde thin. It flew over my building where I worked. What an amazing sight... the most majestic aircraft at the most mundane little airport!

Well I believe I remember them talking about its engines and the noise and vibration, etc. when it took the Europeans to Rochester for the Ryder Cup. BTW, where did the Concorde fly from? Could its flight have possibly been the only intercontinental flight to and from ROC ever? And what would be next after all of the 727's are thrown away by UA and Delta? And I don't think the A320 is larger than versions of the 737, or please correct me if I'm wrong.

PH-BZA, the A320 is larger than the 733, which, to the best of my knowledge is the largest 737 variant to ROC. The Concorde has been here at least 3 times in the last decade- Air Force One was here in 1989.

Well what was Air Force One doing here? It was on the Boeing 707, right? What was the president doing here then? Or was it for an airshow? And on the other occasions the Concorde was here, what was it here for? Isn't the MD-80 larger than the 733?

No, it was the 747. the runway is long enough for AF-1. It's not filled to 747 capacity.

I'm not sure, anymore, about the MD-80. It's longer, but # of pax? could someone help?

Concorde gets chartered for round-the world cruise shit a lot, and there are some wealthy folks in ROC. two visits in the years I've been here (most of my life). Every now and then we get a military C-5. THOSE are impressive.

Doesn't the MD-80 seat somewhere around 120 or 130 to 150? I'm not sure. What Concordes are usually chartered? British Airways?

I thgink both BA and AF. They probably make a hell of a lot more money on charter flights than regular SST service
