787 Seen As Ideal Replacement For MAS A330s

Sun Nov 13, 2005 9:00 am

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) hopes Malaysia Airline System Bhd (MAS) will opt for the new Dreamliner 787 when the time comes for the replacement of its A330 fleet, says its Regional Director, International Sales, Paul Dubeck.

So it is 'being seen' by people who have got no interest in it whatsoever....?

Read the article. The only people 'seeing' it as a replacement are Boeing's sales droids. MH are not interested whatsoever, so the title is misleading. MH could just as easily go for the A350.

Perhaps you should read the article:

"The 787 has been seen by MAS managers for some time as the ideal replacement for the A330 fleet and as an answer to significant improvements in fuel conservation"

So while it may be second hand information from a Boeing source regarding the views of MAS managers, that is far from MH not being interested whatsoever.

I thought their A330 fleet was pretty young? Oh well.

Either way, I think they'll go Boeing on this one. Looks that way, IMO.
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

This is not as simple as it seems

This order will come down to pricing.

Both the A350 and the B787 have good chances.

May the best priced aircraft win  Wink

Quoted by the Malaysian national news agency regarding the Malaysian national airline. Sounds pretty official to me. You wouldn't be bitching about the source if they were planning A350s rather than 787.

They did leave themselves an out though by mentioning that they hadn't yet done an in-depth analysis.

The article also states that MAS have done "little analysis on the 787", and that "Current financial issues and management changes has further led to minimal consideration for the future renewal of the ageing A330 fleet".

It would seem to me that Boeing is showing MAS the 787, and that MAS have no plans to review the A330 yet, let alone have they done any research into a replacement.

This would seem to be media/sales talk here IMHO!

Well, since the 787 seems to be the lower priced airplane that should be easy. I'll bet it has more to do with overall lifetime cost, including finance charges, fuel economy, maintenance costs and other factors.

Yeah....the airplane that will make the airline the most money while costing it the least ought to win.

It's not the first time we heard MAS is looking at the 787 , but when they declared this , the A350 was not known.
Will see.Prices will probably be the key to this order.
Does somebody know when they will announce their narrow body choice ?

No matter what - any airline would be plain stupid if they did not seriously look at both products being offered and did their uttermost to bargin the two up against each other.

Not necessarily so. Like everywhere else, the A v B rivalry is intense in Malaysia. And some reporters promised "exclusives" that spin the story the right way could find themselves off on a tour to Seattle or Toulouse. Bernama may need to take the government line on some stories, but this one, IMHO, only carries the Boeing sales pitch.
I'm sure we'll see the Airbus marketing talk when the A380 visits later this week.

Nice try at cheerleading, but rubbish as ever.

MH may have looked briefly at the aircraft, but have no intention of issuing a RFP at all. Maybe if you cheerleaders took off the rose coloured Boeing-issued glasses you could see what the article is, a hack attempt at drumming up a story which doesn't exist.

MH don't want it. They say it looks nice and the aircraft would be a fit for their A330 segment, but not at the moment. They have aircraft in that sector which are not going to be replaced anytime soon, so Boeing should take their plastic elsewhere.

You might have a point here, but ...

That's not in the article, either. So, take your negative view elsewhere, too.  Wink

Clearly you know better than I do so I will defer to your judgement. Thanks for the insight.
