Booming Dubai-London Market..

Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:25 am

Record business to Dubai has been reported by the UK travel industry in the last 12 months with several tour operators experiencing doubled passenger numbers since World Travel Market 2004. Much of this growth has been made possible by increased flight access with 115 direct flights every week now available to Dubai.
Dubai has experienced a very strong increase in visitor arrivals over the last ten years and many of the 190 UK and Irish tour operators featuring Dubai are experiencing a further rise in demand. With more than 322,000 British guests during the first six months of 2005 - over 14.5 per cent more than last year - the UK is the most important source of overseas visitors .

Visitor figures predicted to increase from 5.4 million in 2004 to 15 million in 2010, this diversification is set to increase further .

There are 115 direct flights weekly from London to Dubai ( source: Travel daily news ) .
Emirates operates 5 DAILY flights out of LHR on B777 and A330 . As well as 17 weekly flights out of LGW on widebodies as well .
British Airways operates 2 Daily flights on B744 .
Other Airlines have 5th freedom on that route including for example Royal Brunei and Biman Bangladesh . Looking at the impressive visitors number,
no wonder Emirates had asked to double flights out of Australia from 42 to 84 weekly.

Virgin's Branson roared into Dubai in the seat of a Ferrari and flanked by a fleet of Harley Davidsons. He was there to inaugurate his newest Virgin Megastore in the Mall of the Emirates, but the publicity stunt was also aimed at promoting Virgin Atlantic's new daily service from London to Dubai, due to start operating four flights a week in March 2006.

With this service, Virgin will seek to take on Emirates in its own backyard, turning the tables on a UAE-based carrier that has been one of the most aggressive movers in the industry in the last few years.

Branson looks at Dubai as a major growth market and feels his airline's service, along with his promise of low prices, will vie for some of Emirates' business.

Are you sure about this? 8 flights from the London area to dubai every day with 6 of them being 777s and 2 being 330's. It rlly seems like an unbelievable amount of seats.

Actually during off peak season the seats are made up of mostly business travellers.
My dad does the DXB-LHR-DXB route a couple of times a month with EK and usually says its fuller up front in F and C than it is in Y.
Not all seats are filled on these flights but what else does EK have? Big grin
