AS SEA-DFW How's It Goin'?

Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:24 pm

I'd be curious to know how AS is doing on the SEA-DFW route. I noticed that this route is changing to 737's from MD-80's.

But DEN is getting a MD-80.

The DFW operation seems to be going pretty well so far.
Loads overall are good, although I don't have a specific LF to report.

AS should be doing well on the route for a few reasons.

First, AA has as many as 10-11 daily flights on this route during the summer (757/M80) and the loads are amazing. Not only is there a good deal of connecting traffic, but also a lot of O&D. When DL dropped SEA-DFW in 2004, the route lost 3-4 daily flights, and AA didn't add enough additional service to totally compensate for the loss.

Secondly, AS customers in SEA tend to be very loyal, and many would prefer AS over AA if the schedules are convenient. Additionally, AS offers DFW pax a good number of connections throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Finally, AS codeshares with DL on the route, and can probably pick up some DL frequent flyers that want to earn DL SkyMiles on SEA-DFW.

Thats a valid point... for now. But the premium DL ff base at DFW is going to dry up and die pretty quickly. I am probably going to end up a skymiles gold this year, but I don't see that happening again. A few more flights to markets with good O/D would be nice from DL - but that just ain't happening. Would have been nice if the MCO flights had been announced on mainline, there is definitely a market for it - I don't see the CRJ schedules being anywhere near popular for a flight that long. A JFK flight wouldn't be bad either from DFW.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

AS and AA have a huge codesharing deal too and because of this there are probably a lot of connection opportunities to the SE USA, which AS doesnt serve (well). Also AA flyers and AS flyers get ffmiles on both so the flight probably compliment each other... I didnt bother to check but just a hunch.

Uh, I am from DALLAS and I would rather take AS. Regardless of aircraft type, or the fact that AS doesn't have any IFE....
Thanks, I'll take AS's service with a smile, and a seat that doesn't smell like pee.

I've heard a good amount of that sentiment around town. Not necessarily the seat smelling like pee part, but just that they have friendly service and are giving AA some competition. AS appears to be doing well on the route, but I do not have any data which could back up that statement.

I cannot divulge exact numbers, but so far it appears to be wildly successful. Let's just say that for the most part it wouldn't be a good idea to non-rev on that route.  bigthumbsup

That's good to hear. I've always had great service on AS - the flight attendants are the best in the industry, in my opinion.

Also in my opinion, the service on AA is atrocious, and AA has by far the rudest flight attendants and ground staff.

Alaska airlines is doing an oustanding job in thier DFW route. It would be nice to see more of it maybe some PDXDFW or LAXDFW.

I'll be another to admit Alaskas service has to be one of the best in the industry. I think they are trained to smile and laugh all the time!! If they don't they will get in trouble!!!(just kidding) But really it's nice to Non Rev on them!

Any comments on what routes for them would work??
As in DFW routes?

LAXDFW?
ANCDFW?
PDXDFW?
SFODFW?
PSPDFW?<--maybe even that!

I think the most likely route of the ones you mentioned would be
ANCDFW.

Yep, right after they get some 787s.  Wink

I would love to see them on LAX-DFW... but somehow I don't see that happening with the codeshare they have with the silver monster.

From what I understand AA is not very receptive to the idea of AS coming into DFW with their own metal, even on the SEA-DFW runs. AS parks at E away from the silver machines... I guess that says a bit for that.

Rage:

PDX-DFW...possible
SFO-DFW...No
LAX-DFW...I'll get into that one below
PSP-DFW...No
ANC-DFW...Most likely no!

Ok, with LAX AS has really built up the place. That I specially know now working there. Fact is we have some major gate issues here. During the evening and morning banks we are at capacity. But most importantly, I don't think AS would want to piss AA off that much. There were already some anger over the SEA-DFW route, but LAX-DFW route is a different route all together. I would lean towards it not happening.

I think a PDX-DFW route would work. I think that would compliment the SEA service and allow pax to better connect (through the AS system) to some of the flights Horizon offers out of PDX into the region. It would make it more convenient for someone to get from say SMF-DFW via PDX on AS vs connecting through SEA.

They could do it easily on a 73G or 738 (CO does IAH-ANC on a 738). I've always thought it could work pretty well, similar to the ORD-ANC flight, because of the multitude of connecting flights in DFW.

But it sounds like it won't happen, at least not anytime soon.

Jr: We are at E cause its cheap space that DFW was offering and needed filled. If we could have moved in with our Silver buddies for the same price I'm sure we would have. The 73G/738 can do ANC to anywhere in TX, but I really don't see it happening. DFW-PDX would most likely be next but DFW I feel will be a little spot on the AS system map and thats it.

Welcome back to a.net, ASLAX (formally known as ASSFO)! I believe with the new train system at DFW, you can connect more freely with AA from Terminal E.

How do you like LAX so far?
