LH A340 At DIA Today

Mon Nov 14, 2005 3:31 pm

Did Lufthansa change equipment on the Frankfurt - Denver route? I was surprised to see a A340 at the gate today, in stead of B747. Does anyone know details? Thanks.

Not sure about now but I am scheduled on the flight in January and it is saying that it will be on an A340 and not a 747. Maybe somebody else can fill us in on the current equipment usage.

A346 in the wintertime. Was that what you saw?

Latest I know...because I sometimes see what you saw....LH mostly uses the 744, and will sometimes send the A346.

DLKAPA is right, LH is using the 346 daily on the FRA-DEN flights during the winter time.

Schedule:

FRA 12:50 - DEN 15:25
DEN 17:15 - FRA 10:50

Strange, I thought LH was going to mostly stick to the 744 because it had more Business/1st Class seating than the A346. I guess the winter season is a bit different then what they thought, or were projecting.

One thing I can tell you, is those flights are packed most the time. Great for LH and DEN. I wonder if LH is looking at opening up a Munich route nonstop from DEN?

The A346 was brought in for the winter schedule last year as well. This year, the 744 will come back on February 1st. The premuim demand really drops off this time of year to DEN, so bringing in the A346 fits pretty well. Also, the 744s again start undergonig the upgrade to the new business class seats.

The flights do really well out of DEN. There has been much talk about DEN-MUC opening, either with LH or UA metal, but it seems to be mostly a problem of fleet/schedule restrictions. I remember hearing that the flight between MUC and DEN is just over the limit to allow the use of a single aircraft within 24 hours, thus making the rotation of aircraft a little less flexible. It's something that can be worked out, but with LH's longhual fleet going in for the new business class seat upgrades, the fleet is streched a little thin. I'm sure it is a route that we will see in the next couple of years though.

Especially when considering when the route originally began, UA operated a daily 777 flight on top of the LH flight to FRA. Sadly, 9/11 put a stop to that flight. Hopefully, once UA gets some additional long-range aircraft, such as the 787, which would be perfect for DEN-MUC, they can operate a DEN-MUC, and some type of DEN-London service, though currently it can't be operated due to US-British agreements into LHR. Hopefully UA can start other European non-stops, too, eventually. They at least just introduced the DEN-MEX flight, so there are beginning to be more international flights out of DEN.

As for the original topic at hand, I believe that has already been sufficiently and correctly answered. DEN-FRA is now being operated with a A346 for the winter.

UA could always screw BA and operate a flight to LGW, its just that DEN is the only UA hub that isn't LHR compatible.

When UA was buying US, DEN was going to be added to the LGW schedule since US obviously already operated a station there.

Would it ever worked if UA teamed up with Star partner US Airways and flew from DEN-LGW, where US Airways provided the ground services for UA. Then, they wouldn't have to get an entire new "team" for the one flight, but could have a presence on DEN-London.

Cool, thank you; must fly back before February then. Unless anyone knows of a planned DIA-AMS direct flight....
