Nalanji Dreaming No More

Tue Nov 15, 2005 12:52 pm

heard from a fairly reliable source that Nalanji Dreaming is being painted white, made airworthy and will be flown to the US in the near future for scrapping. Not sure of the exact time it will happen but its not to far away.

It is really truely sad to lose more color in the skies. Why does it have to be EBU? WE can only hope they repaint it on another aircraft like what they did with Nalanji, but I doubt they would do it on another B743.

That's too bad. I like the Nalanji colors the most.

It was one of the most beautiful liveries on a 747. Thank god I had the chance to take a picture of her in SYD last year.

Considering all the parts that have already been removed, that sounds like an awful expensive trip to the junkyard.

Really sad news, Nalanji Dreaming was one of the nicest livery flying around.
I have seen Nalanji Dreaming in April 2005 on the Avalon Airport, it was quite nice.

That's sad, a beauty like that is going to the grave. How old is she?

I have never seen her in life but she is indeed beautiful, hers will be a loss to all who love paintschemes with flair and style.

Many Europeans do not realize that calling something 'quite nice' is what is known as "Damning with faint praise".  Smile

Delivered 24 January 1985, therefore, almost 21. Been out of service since February or March though. I was lucky enough to fly on her in late January this year!

Trent.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

lol, Chris, you expect that everybody thinks the Nalanji was great looking?
You know, we love the boring Euro White and QF also has this "boring" color scheme. I love the Euro White , there is no need for me to make a piece of art out of a plane. Also we saw what happened to the Wunala - the engines have different colors now than the body.

Thats sad indeed, and the sudden death now seems to come faster than anticipated. Very sad that this beautiful 743 is the very first QF 743 that has to go.
Who has EBUs accumulated cycles and flight hours handy? I remember that the flight hours of QFs 742s were very high for 22 year old aircraft when they went to Marana in 2002/03. I expect that due to the fact that the QF 743s were often used on shorter to medium routes the cycles clocked are above average for their age as well.

oh NO!

Nalaji was hands down one of the best special liveries ever! I also thought the art was more interesting and overall looked better than Wunala.

I am sad to see it go too - but lets get real folks - the plane is 20 years old - so 'sudden death' is a bit dramatic - none of the -300s can have long to go now - not only are they ageing ( the youngest dates from 1987 ) but they also are the only a/c QF still has that require 3 cockpit crew rather than 2 . I suspect that when QF reveals all on Dec 7 the delivery time scale of the first 4-5 777s will provide an idea of the departure dates for the remaining 743s.

Hopefully QF will resurrect the Nalanji Dreaming colours at some time in the future on another aircraft -wonder what it would look like on a 773 instead .

Lets pray QF goes for the great 747-8 and not 773s!

I suspect it would look rather nice but seriously those colours belong on a 747.
