How Is AirCanda´s YYZ-ZRH-DEL Flight Doing?

Wed Nov 16, 2005 7:55 am

Hi all,

well AirCanada is now serving since some weeks/days the DEL flight via ZRH with the B767-300 (AC-878 /YYZ-ZRH-DEL and AC-879 / DEL-ZRH-YYZ).

I am asking me how is AC doing on the route, better to say on every sector? Well I think the B767-300 is a little bit small for this route, as AirCanada has full rights on all sectors and ZRH is a reopened destination + Swiss is code-sharing on all flights. Swiss is also selling parts of the cargo capacities of the flights.

Actually I don't know and I think it is a bit early to say. It is interesting that ZRH is becoming a Canada-India hub. AC has its flights Toronto-Zurich-Delhi with Swiss code-sharing. LX has the flights Montreal-ZRH, ZRH-Bombay with AC code-sharing. As all four flights come in and leave at about the same time at ZRH you can change from one to all others in each direction.

the intresting is that they plnd a similar operations two years ago via MUC.

But now it is ZRH and it seems very good desicion as mentioned due crossing of the destinations. AC and LX each are operating too two citys but can sell 4 citys.

cheers.

I think its the goal to be a carrier that can get a ticket all the way to india, there are a lot of carriers connecting pax into India, ie: LH, BA, AF, AZ, KLM, and etc from YYZ, if AC can fill the route and keep the aircraft full and not use an A340 then this is a great option!

From the passenger numbers, London followed by Frankfurt are connecting more people between India and Canada than any other destinations.

Most everything into and out of India, as well as within, is running full if it offers a decent rate and validated onboard service, in economy.

It is up front that counts, and that, I believe, is not doing too well on the DEL route.

well for the 21of November it seems not to bad in business look above...

the big + for AC is that they can sell tickets on 1 market more europe (same as NW and DL) than AA or CO.

Just checked the loads on 878/879 for the next few days.

878 YYZ-ZRH-DEL has less than 5 open seats on most legs, and oversold on some.

879 DEL-ZRH-YYZ has about 4 - 30 open seats on some legs in economy and full in J.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Slightly OT, why does AC never considered operating into BOM or southern airports of India?

Also, they seem not to be operating to certain destinations of south-east asia as well (BKK, KUL, TPE). I am open to be corrected here.

IIRC AC operated briefly into BOM years ago via LHR , I think the a/c continued on to SIN afterwards. At the moment lack of a/c is a problem for AC (though one we know is going to be fixed over the coming years  Smile ) so I think they will be quite happy to continue to codeshare on LX ZRH-BOM at least as an interim measure

YYZ has a very very large punjabi population. Correct me if I am wrong but it has the largest sikh population in North America.

I flew the nonstop YYZ-DEL-YYZ because of it being nonstop. I think they will lose the market to so many other airlines. Why did they stop the nonstop flight? It was a full flight both ways.

Continental and AA are going to make a lot of money with their nonstop flights to DEL.

The yields did not materalize. They decided to put the A343 on other routes which would get greater yields. Right now they have a dire shortage of LH fleet.

While the yields were not as favorable as some routes. It's been said many times on many threads...wrong aircraft for the route. Pure and simple.

No. Largest PUNJABI metros in N. America (ranked): Vancouver, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Detroit.

It's a little disingenuous to say that they had full fifth freedom rights since BA and SQ complained that AC was too successful picking up fifth freedom traffic and basically pushed AC off the route. The Brits went as far as to try and abrogate the Canada-UK bilateral... because it was more important to protect BA in those pre-Virgin days.

AC also used L1011s at one point on the YYZ-LHR-BOM-SIN route. I flew on one way back in the 80s and early 90s from SIN to BOM and back.

Any chance YYZ-ZRH-DEL will get upgraded to the A343 or A345 in the summer?

I would say the chances are nil. Loads to DEL drastically drop off during the summer time, which acoounted for the reduced frequency in recent years, and the 763 is sufficient to handle the ZRH loads. Besides which, given the lack of aircraft the 333's are already spoken for and allocated for the summer.

As November 12, the load was great, almost full flight from ZRH to YYZ.

But right now the problem is, from DEL to ZRH, even for transit passnegers everyone must leave the plane and sit in ZRH for thres hours. I don't really understand why it stop there for so long.

The re-boarding was terrible as well. I asked the ground service manager (Swissport), he told me ZRH needs to wait Delhi immigration to fax them the name list, and the name list is always not correct, they need to check each transit passengers manually one by one. Thats why ZRH-YYZ leg was always delayed. Mine was an hour....and they said thats a daily routine

Personally I think AC is so smart to use ZRH as a stopover to DEL, fully fill up a 763, reopen ZRH, connection with LX, keep DEL as a destination. But I don't think AC will make BOM or DEL non-stop in the coming short future, for example in 2006. Air India now also flying YYZ - DEL with connection to BOM, so AC will wait to see. Also, they don't have any A340 to deploy as well, don't day dream they will deploy the A345 to anywhere else except the legend YYZ-HKG non-stop. This route is extremely popular now as AC is code sharing with SQ, TG and UA for connection travel from HKG to SIN, BKK and SGN.

Just a brain storm...Vancouver also with a huge Indian population, I am wonder if one day AC will operate their AC7/8 to HKG with extension to DEL, making another one stop flight from west coast to India and AC becomes a RTW airlines. UA did that before..anyone know the load factor??

I'd be nice to see them RTW and I'm sure they already have it in their head, but then where are the planes.

hmm well it looks like i'll be flying ORD-ZRH (Swiss) and then ZRH-DEL (Air Canada) in August... first time on both carriers... so i'm very curious to know where you'd arrive into /depart from and all sorts of stuff... although, Zurich's airport website is horribly laid out but kudos to them for giving aircraft registrations!

Or, according to Yyz717, perhaps when hell freezes over. I think that eventually, YWG will warrant direct AC service to Europe as in days past, but right now, unfortunately, YWG-Europe is likely fairly low on AC's priority list for new routes.

Lfutia,

In Zurich you should arrive at Terminal E, you need to take the terminal train for immigration, or just stay in Terminal E for transit.

In ORD, Terminal 5 should be...and I am not sure about DEL..
