BA Inflexible Tickets - Changes Now Possible

Wed Nov 16, 2005 9:16 pm

BA has changed the rules on tickets from Europe to London. Now even the cheapest ticket can be changed for a fee of Eur 50 plus any difference in the fare if there is one. However, so far, it doesn't seem to apply for departures FROM London. I called BA in LIS to clarify, but so far they do not know when changes will be introduced from London, although they expect soon.

Doesn't match the reasonable change fees of easyJet though.

It would appear that the only fares ex London that are changeable for a fee are in H and B allocations, even BMI allow changes for a fee on all their fares!!! Is it again a case of 1 set of rules for BA's home based market and another for everyone else? It would seem to be.  banghead

True, but before if you needed to change before, it was too bad - 100% loss on the ticket AND that included Club class (eg I class) so Eur50 / £35 is a heck of an improvement.

Always been the case with BA. I'll update here when I get more info regarding when the LON changes come into effect. (too apply to all class N, V etc)

Well easyJet charge £25.00 (i think) so it'll only be about £10 more. The 'pay the difference' aspect is exactly the same.

Of course! It's called market specific pricing. Think about it, BA are, in the majority of cases, the carrier of choice for UK based travellers. It's a guaranteed market. In Europe, they have to fill their planes back to the UK too, and are competing with national carriers who employ similar vis-a-vis pricing.

And it makes perfect sense. You make money where it is, i.e. your home market.

From the easyJet website:

This allows you to change passenger names and alter itinerary details - and take advantage of a discount on the usual change fees (£15 online per passenger per flight; £20 through our call centre).

You chose not to mention easyJet charge a little bit more to change via the call centre. BA change fees are static.

I quoted the online prices, most users of this website know that if you call it costs more.

I'd like to see all short haul flights on BA to be flexible to compete with the no frills carriers, so hopefully they are moving in the right direction.
