You're right! The first one is due tomorrow and 11 more to come!

No indications of the routes yet other than they will be used for smaller markets.

BTW, my source is Folha.com.br

first route will be a second daily PTY-SAL with a stop in SJO. This will make SJO the most served market for copa, with 2 daily 73G's, 1 daily 738 and 1 daily E19. Second route will be PTY-GYE direct, eliminating the stop in UIO. UIO will be served daily nonstop with a 73G and 738.

Then they will start PTY-POS, the first totaly new route to see the EMB.

PTY-ADZ will be downgraded to a EMB and later cancelled in favor of a codeshare with P5 (of which copa owns 85% of the stock)

PTY-CTG will be downgraded to a EMB190, PTY-BAQ will keep the daily 73G service, as loads have improved significantly on this route and cargo demand is high.

here end the official announcements

A company memo stated the iminent relaunch of PTY-SAP and PTY-MBJ. SAP and MBJ was served by copa before but cancelled due to poor loads. Copa believes that the EMB190 will allow it to serve profitably the SAP and MBJ market.

Also, A third daily PTY-MIA is a strong rumor. so it will be the second EMB 190 operator in American skies.

PTY-MAO has been rumored but nothing has been confirmed

Foreign operator. Unless you meant the E90 only?

Would be nice to see them at MAO, so at least we would see E-jets operating in our skies...

Cheers

The E190 will have a similar livery to Continental. They are going to look sharp.

Great news. I always welcome Airplane variety in Central America. A320´s and 737´s eventually get boaring!  yawn

I had heard they might use them to MGA. Perhaps revive the MGA-MEX route? Anybody have some info?

Just to translate the article from folha online

http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/dinheiro/ult91u102411.shtml

Copa Airlines will be receiving tomorrow their first Embraer 190 jet. The company awaits delivery for another 11 aircraft. It is expected that this aircraft will enter service at the end of this month.

According to the company, the addition of the Embraer 190 to its fleet will allow them to equalize offer and demand for smaller markets that are best served with 94 seat aircraft.

Also, this way Copa will add diversity to its fleet, currently composed of 22 737-700's and 737-800's

The delivery ceremony for the Brazilian Jet will be attended by the president of Copa Airlines, Pedro Heilbron and other airline executives

Copa Airlines currently operates 80 daily flights to 30 different countries in North, Central and South America and through codeshare agreements offers flights to 120 other international destinations

I envy COPA right now. In TAME, things dont seem to be doing well. The two EMB170 are still there, now for two months and nothing can be done. Only god knows when the BANCO CENTRAL will give the signatures!! ARRRR!!

I'm pretty sure that they would not be allowed to do this. IIRC, all baggage to Galapagos must be inspected by Ecuadoran gov as they are correctly very protective of these islands and I can't think of any foreign airlines that are allowed to fly domestic in the country.

I guess it's possible that they could stop in GYE or UIO for inspection but most people like to spend a few days in Quito anyway so I don't see this one happening. Could be wrong though.

Any idea how far the E190 can make it into the U.S. from PTY? Any ideas of potential new routes to the Southern U.S. or West Coast?

Copa ordered the AR, which has a range with maximun payload of about 1700nm, with a tipycall payload they have a range of about 2000nm. That enaibles copa to serve all the way up to ATL and maybe even ORD, DFW. Dont worry, new routes will be coming soon to the US, although most will be with 73G.

There is a picture on the bottom of the Embraer official press release:

It's small picture though.

I wonder if they will be sent to TGU, I don't know how well that market is doing. But another thing to consider whether the E190 can land and takeoff with a load at TGU.

It looks sleek in Copa/Continental livery. Hopefully COex will take some EMB175s in the near future. Fills a big hole in their capacity range for their product.

Copa gets very good loads on the TGU flight. At least that is what my father thinks, he "commutes" twice a month between PTY and TGU and says the flight is almost always full on the PTY-SJO leg, then drops to about 75% on the SJO-TGU leg. I dont know if CM is allowed to pick up passengers in SJO for the flight to TGU? can our costarican freinds answer that?

You will see her in SAP, that is for sure. Maybe she will do a nightly PTY-TGU-SAP. Who knows, let the speculation begin.

One thing is for sure, this aircraft was bought by Copa for the purpose of dominating traffic in Central America. They want to offer better frequency and times than TA and hope to serve smaller markets.

Do you think flights to LIB might be possible?

Luisca: Yes COPA carries passengers between TGU-SJO. passengers prefer it because it is the only nonstop between the cities. COPA is doing very good at TGU. with both pax and Cargo.

FLL and TPA.. I doubt ATL - specially if they become full SkyTeam members, but if there's some traffic I could think they would study daytime PBI, MSY, JAX and RDU even if 3-4 times per week.

The 2nd SAL flight is going to be non-stop, the re-new SAP is the one with the SJO stop.

Yes

My guess is that LIR would work only 2-3 weekly as a stop in route to GUA. Almost all LIR destination traffic is from the USA and well served non-stop. LIR is not a big tourist destination like CUN, HAV, MBJ, AUA, SDQ, PUJ for latinamericans yet.
