Paging ComAir, The Bank Would Like Their Jets Back

Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:19 pm

It seems that ComAir has not kept up payments on 4 of the EMB Jets and so the Bank is calling in the chips and asking them to turn over the jets. pronto.

Well, someone screwed up here completely, seeing that Comair doesn't fly any Embraer products. Their fleet is completely made up of CRJ family aircraft.

The article says Embraer planes, not jets.

They certainly used to, lots of them, some of which they're still apparently responsible for.

Someone did screw up here, though, just someone at Comair/Delta, who apparently forgot to file to reject the leases on the old birds.

Yes, but Comair has been all purejet for quite a time now. Why in the world would they have such long term lease obligations?

you wonder, maybe in their dawning days they thought erjs were a good order, so they leased for , then the next day , they thought erjs suck, lets get crjs, and have forgotten ever since  Wink

Until recently, airplane leases were traditionally often quite long-term. I think you'll find that most airlines that haven't been through bankruptcy recently are still paying for planes they haven't flown in a long while. Continental, for example, is not only still paying for leases on MD-80s, but also a number of EMB-120s and ATR-42s.

It may very well be some old Emb-120's sitting in storage somewhere.

First off, very funny thread title. Please pick up a white courtesy phone for your message.

I would think something along these lines but why in God's name wouldn't they sublet them (can you even do that with a plane?) rather than store them.

Is it 110's or 120's?

You can indeed sublet aircraft, and I have no idea why they haven't.

Sounds to me like someone at Comair forgot to let DL know about them when DL first took over Comair. Either that or someone in DL forgot to include them in the Chapter 11 filing.

They would definitely be EMB-120's not 135's or 145's.

At one point in time, Comair was keeping the 4 Brasilias for something to do with pilot contracts, or an agreement with Delta, I forget which. I believe that they are/were not allowed to put new hires directly into the jets, so everyone cycled through the -120's for a short period of time.

So it sounds like they've sub-leased (or sold?) them on to somebodyelse without telling the finance company? Naughty!!

One would think that with today's economic issues, that they'd park a few CRJ's and fly the d@mn things.
