Boeing - 733 Firm Orders So Far This Year

Fri Nov 18, 2005 1:20 am

I don't think any of us would have expected figures like this even six months ago. And right across the board too, every one of five models is selling; including 43 747s. Congratulations to all of them.

Is the 735 still being produced? I heard that some 735s have already been scrapped(not due to write offs).

Congradulations to Boeing for a great year. Selling 733 airliners so far this year is a great milestone for them.

Is this a record sales year for them?

They got 229 firm orders for the 787 and I didn't realize the 748F orders were firmed up!. Finally VNs and China Eastern's orders for the 787 are there.

Word out from the orders web site is that CX is going for the 773ER and that Boeing will be making more order announcements tomorrow. That's just a rumor so don't hold me to it.

Can someone help me understand something here? NCA had an order for one 744F prior to the launching of the 748F. On the press release announcing the launch of the 748/748F, NCA was stated to have ordered 8 firm + 6 options. Today's update shows 13 747s (types not broken down) associated with NCA. I am unable to account for 4 additional 747 freighters. Any help would be most appreciated.

I think the best for Boeing and many, many, if not most, aviation fans worldwide is the fact having their greatest product ever recovering from near-death with quite an impressive number of orders (so far this year the 747 has claimed orders for 3 1/2 years production at the current pace!).

As for Nippon Cargo: Didn´t they order 3 744Fs earlier this year, added 1 just a few weeks ago and now ordered the 747-8F?

A tremendous year for Boeing....is 800 orders within reach? With 26 777 orders anticipated from EK, that makes the total 759 orders. Can they make it to 800??

From the Boeing Orders Website, it looks like NCA ordered 3 744F on Jan 28, 2004 and added a 744F on April 28, 2005.

The numbers in blue (if you are talking about the weekly update page) indicate changes in tally from the previous week's update. Those in black mean the numbers are unchanged from the previous week.

BTW, a minor nit - while the numbers for the NCA count have been marked in blue, the operator name "Nippon Cargo Airlines" is still in black.

Depends on how you define it. The 737 is their best selling product ever, the 747 probably the greatest technological achievement.

I don't know how you would rank achievement when comparing different technology generations, because it is certain the 777 has greater technology than the 747. It might be easier to rank technological advancement for a product, and the 747 certainly was a vast leap. On the other hand the 707 was no small potatoes advance either.

Have those 26 unidentified 787 orders always been there? If not, wonder who they're for.

Way to go Boeing! Two more decent orders and they're over 800, that's amazing!

From the Boeing Orders Website, it looks like NCA ordered 3 744F on Jan 28, 2004 and added a 744F on April 28, 2005.

NCA still had a further 4 744Fs to firm up to take their total to 8. When they announced the 747-8 order they re-iterated that they would still go ahead with a total of 8 744F orders, of which 4 are the ones you list. So looking at todays total the numbers for NCA are;

5 x 744F
8 x 748F

That gives you the total of 13 and the 3 from 2004 are the balance of the 16. Though we've not really seen a press release from Boeing the Engine manufacturer announced the order for the extra 4 744Fs earlier this year.

Check this one out too:
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/...HistAnnOrd&ViewReportF=View+Report

It demonstrates that the 747 is having is best year since 1996, when 60 frames were sold. And, the amazing performance of the 787 - none of Boeing's other programs have gotten off to such as fast start in the first two years. Come March of next year Boeing's gotta knuckle down and start to deliver on their banner year.

Looking at the chart, FriendlySkies, all the annual figures include MD types, from 1955 to 1998.

Possibly academic, though - there are rumours of further orders every day. Incredibly, I think they have a good chance of beating 877 anyway.

Also, note that this is the best ever year for the 737 and the worst ever year for the 717.

Congratulations (for the 737s) Boeing!!!

And also, what happen in the year of 1994? Seems rather disastrous for everyone.

Relative to their generation of course. The 747 was likely the largest leap they ever made and turned the name "Boeing" into a household word, though indeed the 707 is a prime contender.

Given the history of Chinese orders for both Airbus and Boeing, I'd be surprised if these actually make it to firm orders this year. There normally seems to be several months between announcement of Chinese orders and the signing of firm contracts.

800 appears to be within easy reach. There are any number of deals outstanding that might be signed by the end of the year. We may soon be asking whether or not Boeing might make it to 900 this year.

The really remarkable thing about this week's order is that all 75 are widebodies. Has Boeing ever booked 75 widebodies from 6 different airlines in a single week?

The way things are going, Boeing's first quarter is going to be a continuation of the good fortunes that it's enjoyed all year long. I think that we may be able to look for even more 787 orders next year as they start to get into production mode and if they can increase production from mid 2009 on out.

The interesting thing about this huge number to me is that it includes few of the carriers who have traditionally driven sales numbers in the past years with big orders, especially the US carriers. I am guessing that US carriers twenty years ago drove the majority of the market, but this year reflects the huge growth in the global aviation market. This is new, because twenty years ago I don't think you could have 4 of the major US players in and out of bankruptcy, and expect this kind of harvest.
It is not enough to be rude; one must also be incorrect.

I believe we will see two more "hot years" for Boeing (for #1 and #2) and Airbus (for #2):

  1. The time period during which U.S. carriers begin ordering the 787 in quantity.
  2. The time period during which Boeing and Airbus unveil the next-generation 100-225 seat airliners.

RE: Boeing - 733 Firm Orders So Far This Year

Sun Nov 20, 2005 10:49 am

Personaly, I'm gobsmacked by Boeing's achievements.
I'm equally as shocked to return from by absence from the internet to find that 150 737s are to be orders. I mean good god thats a huge order!

I make that over 850 firm orders for this year! WOW.

I bet the champagne will be flowing in mass quantities at Boeing over the festive season this year!
This is a very strong come back from a manufacturer that many thought (including myself at one point) were all but finished in the commercial aircraft world.

This is hard earned success and long overdue.

I have no doubt that the carriers once they emerge from bankrupcy will be in a rush to order the planes. They are getting slaughered by high fuel prices and any relief in that department will be the first order in a post bk proccess. (Since bk proccess theoretically reduced manpower costs to a more palatable number). Much like AC, I suspect that orders will emerge very quickly for the new plane.

UA and US both had Airbus as one of their top lenders, so I imagine these orders will go (because of backroom agreements) to the A350. On the other hand NW has already ordered the plane and DL and AA will not be far behind. I also could see one of the LCC's buying a small number for international travel.

You make a valid point Scbriml though this one is a little different as 45 are already announced and the report states that President Bush is personally signing the contract.

I don't think Bush can sign any contract for Boeing, even if he were to attend. News report I heard today said he would be attending a small Christian church while the Boeing order is announced. He seems to have no problem letting the Chinese know what he thinks...plane orders be damned.
