MX is considering flying to China by 2007. There is no a/c able to fly MEX-NRT/PVG/PEK nonstop. It is said they have considered doing a tech stop over in TIJ. Also, there are lots of Asian firms in TIJ.
MX finally realized they will not make a dime flying to Asia non-stop from Mexico, so plans are on hold indefinitely. Instead, they will sign a codeshare agreement with a Chinese airline to connect passengers through LAX, SFO and YVR.
Quoting Rojo (Reply 3): hey will sign a codeshare agreement with a Chinese airline to connect passengers through LAX, SFO and YVR.
Someone mentioned a while ago that under the Mexico-Canada bilateral, Mexican carriers have 5th freedom rights ex-YVR so I do not understand why MX does not consider the possibility of getting a couple widebodies and launch a MEX-YVR-PVG flight.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738
