A Lover's Query: AC E75 Boarding At YUL (to LGA)

Fri Nov 18, 2005 12:36 pm

Welcome to the wonderful world of the bizarre a.net forum enquiry... bear with me on this one, this is from an old romantic who would appreciate some important info...

I live in Montréal. In January my g/f is visiting from England. However, when she booked her flights she found AC significantly cheaper LHR -> YUL -> LGA and back YUL -> LHR. So we agreed to meet in New York; I'd take the train down and meet her there.

But.... that wouldn't really be in the spirit of things would it?

So, I know her booking reference, itinerary and seat selection for the flight. I have therefore been able to book onto the same flight and (yay!    ) into the seat next to her... we're 15 A and 15 C...although she knows nothing about this.

So, just one piece of vital info would be appreciated to make it all work. Assuming her inbound flight from LHR isn't delayed, and we do end up on the same flight... can any frequent flyers on AC750 YUL -> LGA tell me whether this flight boards just from the front, or both ends of the a/c. Bear in mind it'll be in January in Montréal - I'm guessing one airbridge and no walking across the tarmac to the rear steps....?

If so, I'll probably hide in the departure lounge and then board last, and try to sneak down the aisle without being spotted... any suggestions for making it work?

Sound like a plan? A kinda 'Baldrick-you're-a-stupid-arse' plan?

Thanks everyone

Well done on the sappy stuff. Actually I think the best would be to somehow be able to be the first on the airplane so that you can be sit in her seat and then look in a magazine. Then we she boards, she will say "excuse me sir, your in my seat."

Don't know how you would go about that, but hey, you can have fun trying.

Good idea Tguman,

Only problem is she'll be in the waiting lounge; it'll be very hard for him not to get spotted. Best thing I say is to try to get the boarding agents to conspire with you for an idea... probably boarding last is your best bet! There is a 99.99% chance that you will be boarding from the front only. Best of luck to you, great idea!

Who says romance is dead? Nice idea Jason. Hopefully she will be pleasantly surprised.
Like C'pimp said, more than likely, they will board from the front of the a/c first. I have never seen a smaller a/c boarded from the rear with AC.
I would try and hide in a corner of the departure area, and conspire with the gate agents to let you on first. I'm sure that will be glad to help you out.

Couple this with a marriage proposal, and you have yourself the makings of an "Airline" episode...

Good luck!

No, sorry, I like air travel, but there's no way I'm doing it on a plane...

Proposing, that is...  laughing  imagine being trapped in a window seat by your lover during a flight. Not much room for maneuver if you're not ready to say yes ... Especially with 100 other passengers probably in on it by then  boxedin

A film crew would be handy... I've seen Easyjet staff help a lover get on the plane first and hide in the galley before, but I don't know how sympathetic AC on board staff will be to my protestations  Smile

If this is thread is still un-archived in January, I'll let you all know how it goes.

Why not contact someone at AC and after explaining your situation, ask them for priority boarding or escorted boarding. You would be surprised how far some airlines go to do little things like this, as its very good customer services!

It was a friends wedding not that long ago, and she was having it in another country (Greece). Flying out on Thomson, she was boarded last due to 'problems' with her wedding dress carry on item, and low and behold, sat up there in premium with her were arouned 20 friends who had told her they couldnt make it! She was thrilled.

Thomson had been contacted and agreed to carry it out, boarding the group from another lounge and holding up this girl. She loved it.

The wedding went great, as the mother knew these 20 were infact coming.

If everything is working normally, the aircraft will board from the front passenger entrance, and from a bridge. The only time I have ever seen the rear entrance used in YUL is for a wheelchair passenger, and when using a PTV, taking the passenger directly to Customs, bypassing a lot of stairs.

When you get to YUL on the day of departure, ask to speak to a Customer Service Supervisor. Tell him/her your plan, and I am certain they will do all they can to assist.

But, remember, you are under a few constraints. First of all, for security, all must board through the same entrance, from the same area. As the flight is precleared, the "in bond" area of YUL is not all that big, it may be hard to avoid detection by your amie. The only thing I can suggest is to board after her, as opposed to before her, as it is unlikely you would get onto the aircraft without her seeing you.

Bonne chance!
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!
