Busiest Air Route Sector In The World SYD - MEL?

Fri Nov 18, 2005 2:02 pm

I would love some help in knowing which two direct airports have the busiest air sector in the world. I have always thought it was Sydney - Melbourne with about 110+ commercial flights each day. The 110+ flights are made up from Qantas and Virgin Blue with some additional internationals doing short hop flights as well.

Any help in clarifying the busiest sector between two airports would be much appreciated.

If this has been discussed previously . . . my apologies.

VH - welcome to airliners.net.

SYD-MEL ranks right up there, but I believe Tokyo-Sapporo is the number one.

Here is a recent thread which discussed this:

According to my data for weekly frequencies:

479 - Congonhas (Sao Paulo) - Santos Dumont (Rio)
446 - Barcelona - Madrid
382 - Sydney - Melbourne

For number of flights, it's Barcelona - Madrid (which contradicts the above post - but they are pretty close regardless) .... and been discussed every month for the past n years.

For pax, it's one of the Japan/Asian domestics, can't remember which (HND-?), but try a search. Almost all the flights are heavies. Routes from HND make up the top 3 or 4 routes in terms of PAX, then SYD-MEL.

This has been discussed many times during this year.

In terms of number of seats - I'll bet London to New York is up there.

LHR-CDG is not that big actually - a lot of people get the Eurostar or drive it.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

I dont mean to be rude either, but whats your problem if its gets discussed one more time? I have never seen this topic and its very interesting to me. I am sure the people who are contributing haven't seen it either. So what if its taking a few extra bytes on the server and exactly one line in the topics list? If you know its been discussed before you dont want to read it again don't click on it, but there has to be someone who has to complain atleast once! I think we would all appreciate it if you contributed what the result of previous discussions was since you ve read it rather then whining about idiotic things!

About the topic how come the US East coast cities with Shuttle services arent mentioned? I would think they would be pretty busy since they get departures every half hour from 3 or 4 major airlines?

I know that S. Calif.-N. Calif. is up there given the high frequency of flights from several airports linking each other. There is no high-speed rail link between the two metro areas so the only way to make this dense market feasible for the business traveler is to fly.

I don't have an issue with the thread, and note that as well as saying 'do a search' I did in fact provide some answers.

BUT ... exactly the same questions are being asked, and have been answered on similar threads, so you have 2 options - read the old threads and find the answers, OR keep asking and answering the same questions every month.... and argue over whether it's single airport, metropolitan areas, number of passengers, number of O&D passengers, whether ISP is part of NYC, etc. etc. etc,

trust me...it's all coming  Wink

In terms of capacity, I heard that. But when it comes to frequencies, I have no idea. Shouldn't it be some domestic run in the states? Yes, HND-CTS is quite amazing with all those heaving leaving the gate every 30 minutes. I've never used it myself but like HND-ITM, I have done many times. Airports in Japan are just too congested that they need all the heavies.

Dunno how current it is, but I'll bet the top three haven't changed.

Simple: They're not in the top 5.

"SFO/OAK/SJC-SNA/BUR/LAX/ONT"

He asked about airport-pairs-- California is no longer near the top by that criterion.

Airport to Airport it's BCN-MAD.

Which is what I said, and what most of the other threads come up with.

City to City is a different question altogether. It's not Barcelona - Madrid.

When you're talking about number of flights, this is true, but in terms of PAX, as already mentioned, HND-CTS is at the top.

Correct, CGH-SDU is not only the busiest in term sof frequencies but also in terms of pax - and note that flight are also operated GRU-GIG, which would make Sao Paulo-Rio de Janeiro even busier!!!

Why do you think so? What does it have, maybe 10000 seats per day scheduled each way? Fill them all and you still wouldn't match HND-CTS.
