TF-ARI is now G-VKNA.

What reggies are the other 757s going to pick up?

B763 TF-ATT will become G-VKNI, joining G-VKNG.

B763 TF-ATU will become G-DAAE Big grin

Already a fan of Excel after a delightful flight with them last summer (2004) to Dalaman on TF-ARD. Just a shame that they had so many problems at NCL this year which hasn't exactly made them look good.
Which reg will TF-ARD become btw, and does it still have the same "toilet"  Silly problem which delayed our flight to DLM?

Good to see XLA are starting to shape up as promised from their management at a dinner of theirs I worked at recently. It is clear that they were willing to accept that the Summer wasn't the best organisation wise and the solutions brought up for the coming year were pretty good.

I flew with them LGW-SFB-LGW a few months back and found them to be pretty average, nothing to write home about, slightly delayed both ways. Saying that, I would fly them again, though on shorthaul,

Apparently they are changing maintenance (to Monarch??) so hopefully reliability of the aircraft should improve.

Judging by the awful reliability and delays the XLA 757s suffered these last couple of years, may I suggest some registrations: G-KNAC, G-LATE, and G-SOZZ and G-HAHA Big grin

Funney....  sarcastic

You wouldn't be saying that if it was BA that had "awful reliability", and delays, would you?

I flew TF-ARD and TF-ARE to and from Tenerife.
They had problems with the front toilet on both flights.

They both blocked up, so they kept having to close them.
Wonder if it has a smaller crap bucket than the other toilets?

By the way, these two aircraft first flew in 1985 for Eastern and are both getting on a bit now.

Problems with both toilets on Excel 757s? Perhaps G-POOO and G-BABA might be more appropriate then Big grin

I personally like G-ONOT, very appropriate for those passengers forever waiting in awful holiday charter airports for their delayed Excel flight home!

Where are the XLA 75's going to be based next summer?

75 was doing base training at HUY, does that mean, HUY will be a 75 base?

Regards

Mike

I would doubt that Excel would deploy a 757 on HUY flights. They would be more likely to use smaller 737, either an 800 or one of those old 400s they lease.

Any word on Excels fleet expansion/renewal? those old 757s and 734s and 762s have caused reliablity problems and the delays this Summer have tarnished Excels image.

It was all so different a few years ago with the brand new 738 fleet.

I understand HUY will have a part based 738, shared with LGW or CWL.

As I would have expected.

I am worried that HUY might suffer a reduction in the number of charter flights/destinations now that DSA is up and running. Having said that, all the packages well (Thomson) seem to be much more expensive flying from DSA than from HUY.

I have been looking for a quick week in the Canaries and its funny how the same package holiday is much cheaper from HUY and even the usually expensive LBA than ity is from DSA.

DSA seems to be taking over from LBA as the most expensive airport to holiday from in this region. I did think DSA would offer cheaper deals but it appears not to be the case and I have checked across the board for various packages/accommodations with Thomson from DSA.

It seems ironic because many of the people in the DSA catchment area are on low incomes and will still travel up to MAN and HUY if DSA is so much more expensive.

As XLA are aprt of the Air Atlanta group, the 743s registered to Air Atlanta Europe should get UK registrations. Suitable ones have been reserved

G-CRAP
G-JUNK
G-SHED

and G-TECH is being considered but has strong links to British Airways and a certain 763...

DSA opening seems to have had no detrimental affect on the number of charter flights operating out of HUY so far. Even before the Excel announcement to open a partial base next summer at HUY (which I understand will be a 738), the number of destinations offered by other tour operators for Summer 2006 did not seem to have been affected.

TUI have of course trimmed some services from LBA and HUY in favour of DSA, but the gaps left seem to have been filled by other carriers in the mostpart. I'd be very interested to see some figures on how well the BY charters are doing from DSA.

Of course, Peel Holdings didn't think about the location being effectively in the middle of the competition...

Think of a triangle with 3 points. MAN, EMA and HUY. Between them they can cater for a huge catchment area.

All owned by MAPLC. So pricing deals can be adjusted if needed to make sure the three continue to thrive, and HUY can benefit from the many deals done with carriers in and out of the other two. Why go to DSA when you already have contracts with an existing operator a few miles up the road?
