Snapshot: Dec 1982 OAG

Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:06 am

Another auction, so more extracts, from the 12/82 North American OAG this time. Featuring the most crazily ambitious proposed startup I ever saw-- wonder how close they came to actually starting?

National, Hughes Air West, Braniff are gone; America West hasn't started yet. AirCal, Air Florida, Altair and Empire fly F28s, Capitol, Eastern, Empire, Frontier, Jet America (LGB-ORD, LGB-DFW), Midway, Muse, NY Air, Northeastern, Ozark, Pacific Express and USAir BAC 1-11s, Pan Am, PeopleExpress, Piedmont, PSA, Republic, Texas International, Transamerica has one flight, TWA and Western.

Wings Airways has 181 Islanders a week BBX-PHL but only 133 PHL-BBX-- it says. In this issue they also have eight each weekday PHL-DOV-- that probably didn't last long?

Susquehanna Airlines flies Herons out of La Guardia, to BGM - SXY (Sidney, that is). Air Virginia has HS 748s out of Newark, to BWI-CHO-LYH-ROA.

American International's D9S flights are all PENDING GOVT APPROVAL-- their route map is a triangle ACY-FLL-MCO-ACY. Later they supposedly had an actual hub at ACY.

Also PENDING GOVT APPROVAL are all of Air North America's flights, including

ATL to MDW, OAK

BUR to FAT, OAK

ORD to MCI, DFW, LAX, OAK

MDW to SFO, OAK

DFW to MKE, LAX

DEN to OAK

FAT to OAK, SFO, PDX

HOU to IAD

MCI to IAD, TUL, OAK

LAX to MEM, DFW

MEM to ATL, IAD, ORD, OKC, FAT, OAK

MKE to IAD, OAK, SFO, ORD, DEN, MCI, MEM

OAK to BUR, ORD, MKE, HOU, OKC, MEM, FAT, SFO, SAN, PDX, IAD

OKC to MKE, MCI, HOU, SFO, OAK

PDX to SFO, OAK, MEM, SEA

SAN to MEM

SFO to ORD, OKC, PDX

SEA to OAK, PDX

TUL to DEN, OAK

IAD to ORD, MKE, MEM, TUL, DEN, OAK

Note they planned to fly some routes one way only. All? the above were to be daily 727s; in addition they planned a daily D8S DFW-HNL and back, another ORD-PDX-HNL and back, and another HNL-OAK-IAD but not back.

American Int'l eventually would send D9S's to CLE from ACY as part of their ACY hub. not sure if it was a daily flight or not. i have an old photo of one of their planes at the gate at CLE.

Memories - What was CP's frequency YVR-YYZ? Were they big in the YYZ, YOW, YUL triangle, or did that come later?

Out of curiosity, what kind of action did Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine see?

Thx ~ FlyingTexan

I think CP were about the same size as WS currently is in the eastern triangle. I think YVR-YYZ was about the size Canadian was saying 7 or 8 years ago. This is based on the 1984 CP timetable I have.

Couple of years later perhaps. At that time CP was busy absorbing EPA, Nordair and Quebecair. Some restrictions still in place with competing with the Government owned Air Canada in 1982!
