Remember? When Eastern Took Off On Taxiway At PHL.

Sun May 21, 2000 4:24 pm

Anyone who know about during 80's the Eastern's DC-9 pilot made wrong turn into taxiway to take off miss the runway at PHL? The NTSB was reported the pilot remembered saw the centerline white light on runway. But, Control tower saw the plane was on taxiway rolling take off. Which is it true? The taxiway is too narrow with blue lights. The runway lights is white. It was early morning sunrise and cold crisp with light snow covered.

I haven't heard of that one... perhaps I'm too young.

Something similar happened at Oslo Fornebu when it opened though, the aircraft just missed the terminal building.

Once again, it is from the top of my (not always reliable) memory, so please correct me or add any information on this...
