Hi!

Very interesting this news. So is my understanding that TAP will order the A330-200 to replace the A310-300 from 2007 on and from 2013 on both the A340-300 and "maybe" some A330-200's will leave the fleet too! I hope we can get some more deep details regarding this business! Anyway I like both airplanes, so I feel good!!!

In the last 48 hours.

5 A318 for National Air Services (Saoudi Arabia)
6 A320 for Jazeera Airways (Kuwait)
12 A350 for Alafco (Kuwait)
30 A320 for Kingfisher
17 A350/330 for TAP

But offcourse, it just depends on what you define being a 'long time'.  Wink

It looks that TAP will get that date to also replace the A340-300 that will be at that time with 17 years old, that's my understanding!

Indeed, this is excellent news for both Tap and the A350 program. Am just awaiting to get a further break down of the aircraft involved. It will also be interesting to see the power plant chosen for the both the A330/A350. Im must certain that Tap will go with GE.

It will also be interesting to see how long those leased A330 will stay with Tap.

Also I very much appreciate the conversations we've been having via various threads over the last few months on this order. I'm pleased it's finally announced.

Hi!

Very nice news the one I read in Airbus homepage! We will have the A330-200 with 268 passengers, a little less that the A340-300 but a nice increase over the A310-300! I hope our brand new A330-200's will come with all the good amenities they have, like IFE! I also think the introduction of the A330 before the arrival of the A350 will give TAP a smooth transition of about 6 years until we get the brand new A350!!! Regarding the model..... my vote goes for the 800 version!!!

Nevertheless good to see them firmed up. It brings the total of firmed up A350 to 47. If all the orders announced at this airshow are actually firmed up, Airbus total for the year stands at an impressive 569 firm orders. However to reach the 200 firm commitments Leahy announced, Airbus is still 57 short, now it's been announced that these 10 for TAP are those 10 announced as unidentified at the launch of the A350. Tomorrow there are a few more press conferences planned for Airbus, would be nice to know more then.

If I'm not mistaken, with this order TAP is the first flagcarrier of a European country to order either the A350 or 787.

Blue Panorama, First Choice, Eurofly and Air Europa have ordered either the A350 or 787 but aren't considered flagcarriers.

The info here in Brazil is that TAP will lease 3 A332 (one to replace an Airbus A310 that will be returned to lessor on march, 2006) with 2 to be used on service improvements or new routes.
Between november 2007 and june 2008 they will receive directly from Airbus 5 A332, to replace the entire A310 fleet.

And on june, 2013 to december, 2015, they will receive their A350's.

Any info to where they will use their 2 additional widebodies ?

More info on www.panrotas.com.br (sorry, but it's only in portuguese)

Amazing capacity increase for TP... but I wonder if they are going for A359 or 8?

I read this tho...
"TAP has given nonbinding commitments to acquire 10 A350s"

http://www.forbes.com/entrepreneurs/feeds/ap/2005/11/21/ap2348184.html

So its not set in stone... In other words, not firm... Maybe waiting for government approval... I thought this would be firm by now... interesting...

Hi all,

Here's the calendar for deliveries and departures of the A310, A340, A 330 and A350 (leasing and owned by TAP).

This is a great deal for TAP, as by the terms of the deal, Airbus will have to buy back 5 of the A330 bought today by TAP.

Hi a.neters,

This is indeed good news for TAP, but it was already announced.
The new 330 / 350 will (at last) replace the A310 / A340 and in the medium term reduce TAP´s fleet to just 2 aircraft types!!!

The extra capacity might be put on routes to Brazil, where TAP already offers the highest connectivity from Europe, or to fast growing economies of Portuguese speaking African Countries (Angola, Mozambique).

Very hypothetical might be a connection with East Timor!!! Via Goa (India) for example. Would be a nice way to connect Portuguese speaking (or former speaking) countries/ territories.

That list is weird... It shows TAP leasing 3 330 and buying 5.
Also, it shows TAP buying 12 350's.

The deal just announced was for buying 7 330's and 10 350's.

Well... it's 17 aircrafts bought as well.... But there's an error on the pdf...

Hi!

Something is getting me a bit confused!!! In all the press media in Portugal it is said that TAP is:

1 - Buying 12 A350's with 3 more in option
2 - Getting 3 A330-200's in an operational leasing starting in 2006
3 - Buying 5 A330-200's starting in 2007

In Airbus press release it is said 10 X A350 + 7 A330-200's
I don't know what's the right version!!!
Any comments?

Hi WINGS!

I needed to clear out a bit and process all "this mess"!!! It looks to me that Airbus information works either this way - TAP get's 12 A350's + 5 A330-200 or 10 A350's + 7 A330-200's - and these "operational leasing" 3 X A330-200's are not in this business.... but still this is quite dificult to process.

Yes, it seemed to me when I read the Airbus release that it was a bit ambiguous.

TAP Portugal ... has announced the decision to acquire 10 Airbus A350s and seven Airbus A330-200s. "Acquire" here doesn't necessarily mean "buy".

It will add the new A330-200 aircraft starting from 2007. Which could be interpreted to mean that not all of the A330s will be new.

I've read here and elsewhere that TAP will take three or all five of the erstwhile SR/SN/LH A332s with PW engines. Whether it's three or all five (or just two), should we assume that TAP are building towards a total of A330s of which some will be used and some new?

Nothing is firm... still subject to change... this was more air show PR than actual substance. TP has made their decision to remain an Airbus customer... but specifics as to what they buy hasn't been totally determined. This is my take...

The ones that start on 2006 aren't those that belonged to LH or Eurowings??? It's not part of this deal with Airbus and I believe the media are not aware of that and may tend to mix both deals.

I'm sure you mean Blue Wings and not Eurowings but, yes, these aeroplanes (2, 3 or all 5 of them) have been rumoured for some time to be on their way to TAP. To be honest, I suspect we can't blame the media for this one but Airbus themselves. As I quoted above, their website states rather ambiguously that TAP will "acquire" seven A330s. What if they're leasing, say, all five ex-LH planes and just buying just two new ones? Could be.

Correct, TAP requires Government approval before they can sign off on the A350 deal. FYI - the A350 commitment is for 10 which is for 6 x A358 & 4 x A359 which may be subject to change prior to the formal contract being signed,

Hi PanAm_DC10!

Very interesting the information you got related to the numbers of each model! It's the first time I see that, where did you got that??? Just curious of course! It make all sense 6 X 800 and 4 X 900, the 800 will be the excat number to replace the A310-300's and the 900 exactly fit on the A340 number. Also if it's true that TAP will have 3 more in option I'm sure that again it will 1 or 2 800's and 1 more 900!

As I've been looking for different sources, the numbers on TAP's A330/350 acquisition don't match.

Monday evening I saw the news about this on all the 3 Portuguese TV channels and in all of them the numbers on A330 didn't match. However they showed an interview of TAP's CEO Mr. Fernando Pinto were he referred that TAP acquired 10 A350 with 5 more options of this model, 2 out of these 5 are already in an advanced stage of negotiation.

About A330 one of the channels mentioned 8 A330, 5 of which in Leasing.

At this stage those numbers are what Airbus and TAP have agreed, though, as I state, they are subject to change prior to the contract being finalised, which will be next month. As FlyPEGASUS has pointed out TAP are also considering 5 options too. Note Airbus did not confirm this in their press release as, this too, is contingent upon the final break down of the firm order that TAP will place and it is possible that number may well change.

Quoting PM (Reply 35):
TAP Portugal ... has announced the decision to acquire 10 Airbus A350s and seven Airbus A330-200s. "Acquire" here doesn't necessarily mean "buy".

It will add the new A330-200 aircraft starting from 2007. Which could be interpreted to mean that not all of the A330s will be new

Though TAP will acquire some leased A330s, the 7 A332s that TAP will take delivery of commencing in 2007, to the best of my knowledge, will all be new build deliveries.

Regards, PanAm_DC10
