There is a story, probably an urban myth, about Canadian Pacific's first, and only flight into Shanghai. The Maoists were marching to the airport as the aircraft was preparing for departure. The CP
official, who was leaving on that flight, offered a seat to the NorthWest Orient station manager. Apparently the station manager said, no thanks - this will blow over in a couple of weeks! He didn't get out for 10 years.
