US Cutting Back On CLT - SEA/SAN

Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:42 am

I was looking at the time tables today and it looks like US Airways is going to cutback on CLT - SEA/SAN service. I guess this is part of the long rumored Trans-Con pulldown.

Currently US has 2x daily CLT-SAN service with A319 and A320.
Starting in Jan 2006 it appears that CLT-SAN srevice will be decreased to 5x weekly A320 service. That is about a 60% decrease in service.

Currently US has 2x daily CLT-SEA service with A319.
Starting in Jan 2006 it appears that CLT-SEA service will be decreased to 5x weekly on A319s.

Can anyone confirm this?

CLT-SAN has oscillated between 1 and 2 flights per day for a while now. However, I believe 5x weekly is as low as it's been in a long time.

Not much left of the "old" US left at SAN.

It wasn't rumored. US/HP said it themselves. Just no one wanted to believe them, and ignored it. These routes were *bleeding* money.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

What will the transcon pulldown be like in PHL. I have a feeling if they pulldown PHL-SEA enough, it won't take long for AS to jump on the route, same thing with PHL-SAN and WN

I've heard rumors of an upcoming transcon from PDX Big grin I'll say no more on this subject. Just a rumor at this point, albeit a rumor from pretty informed sources.

I believe the difference betwen CLT - West Coast and PHL - West Coast, other than the O&D difference, is that US sells a lot of the European flights as "through" with a change of equipment in PHL. If the West Coast - PHL O&D loads alone are not acceptable, I'd expect US would need to factor in the originating West Coast loads to Europe before striking/reducing the route. All of this supposition of course is without knowledge of the still unknown plans Parker has for International services in general.
