AA To Increase Flights To Brazil To 52/weekly

Wed Nov 23, 2005 12:51 am

Today i read an advertisiment of American Airlines on a major brazilian economy newspaper (Gazeta Mecantil), advising they will improve flights to
Brazil from 47 to 52 per week effective December, 16.

As we know, american carriers (AA, UA, CO and DL) keep using almost all of their slots under the bilateral Brazil-US (it's clear to me that there only 2 available frequencies from 105 available for each side).

Now AA announce they will start to add 5 additional flights.

Flights US/Brazil nowadays (effective Dec, 16)

BRAZIL = 46

Varig...................

Miami (13x)
New York (11x)
Los Angeles (4x)

TAM...................

Miami (14x)
New York (4x)

UNITED STATES = 108

American............

Miami (21x GRU 12x GIG)
Dallas (12x)
New York (7x)

Delta.................

Atanta (14x GRU 7x GIG)

Continental.........

Houston (7x)
Newark (7x)

United...............

Washington (14x)
Chicago (7x)

For me it's not so clear as AA informed they will reduce DFW from 12 to 7x in order to improve GIG flights. Now, it seems they do not need to reduce.
Does the bilateral grant the right to improve seasonal frequencies (GIG-MIA 5x AA2980) ?

Anyone with info on this ?

Felipe

I am surprised they did not use these 5 frequencies for Brasilia or Manaus, etc.

Yes, it is, and in fact could be even bigger, US requires visa to brazilians (and its a US$ 100 charge) as well as brazilians require Visa for US citizens (even tourists).
Could be at least 20 to 30% bigger.

So are these additional flights confirmed to GIG?

As AA stated they'll reduce DWF in 5 freq. and now they announce more 5 new freq., it's no surprise at all. So.. Where are these additional flights for?

Yes, they are. But they are still seasonal frequencies which ends on Feb, 28 06.

Both flights GRU-DFW keeps available on the system. If you look into January 9th flights you will see that all flights (AA904, AA2980, AA906, AA930, AA950, AA998, AA962 and AA982) will be at least 85% booked.

I understand that AA might received some "waiver" to run the 5x additional service to MIA from GIG without reducing DFW service.

Now the question is why they don't use this procedure to start Northeast flights as well as MAO or other places!
